This is the video. It's horrific. The boys are yelled at, BEATEN, and - when they repeatedly tell the agents THEY ARE CITIZENS — they're ignored.
According to Ochoa, one agent told him, "I don't give a damn. Your parents can't help you now."
Both teenagers were detained for approximately eight hours before being released.
They are minors.
They are U.S. citizens.
They were preparing to serve this country - yet their citizenship did not protect them from being beaten, pepper-sprayed, and detained by their own government.

13 years ago on the 4th of July I was in a really terrible place. I had lost what I thought was everything. I was the victim of a crime, not knowing at the time, a crook lawyer stole my settlement money after a bad accident and got me evicted!

I stood in front of the eviction judge. alone, friendless and penniless. I pleaded with the judge for my son and myself, "Your honor, it says 'In God We Trust' over your head'...but to no avail. I had to be out in two weeks.

I took the last month the lawyer was supposed to have paid my rent with, I went to the camera store and bought my first video camera and began documenting what happened to me

Long story short. Dear Sheila gave me her house in Watermill. I put my stuff in storage and moved out there. No car, no money.

I've never felt so alone in my life. But I did know, when I'm watching the world through my camera, there was a momentary relief from the pain.

Somebody out there told me there was a 4th of July parade in Southampton the next day. I can't remember how I got there, but that's when the magic took hold.

When I got home with the footage, I remembered my friend Rex and Neal's song "(Aztec Two-Step) "Living in America"

And I made this video. When I look back on it and all that's happened since, I have such gratitude and remember what true independence day is all about. It's up to us.
