Rose-bay willow herb flourished in the Blitz as it loves soil that has been scorched. It was found to be growing in 90% of London’s bomb sites & given the names Fireweed & Bombweed.

The weeping willow, tree of Hekate goddess of witches, grows near water & has always been associated with ghosts, grief, sorrow & mourning, but also healing due to its intrinsically flexible nature. We are now in the Celtic tree month of #willow until 12 May.

Lavender’s blue, dilly dilly ... a ballad published in the late C17th, but much older.
Lavender was most likely brought to Britain by the Romans, who used it in their baths, to heal wounds & to burn in worship of their gods.

The Greek gods created the poppy so its juice would help Demeter, the great goddess of agriculture, sleep & dream to heal in her grief over the loss of her daughter Persephone. When Demeter awoke poppies sprang from her footsteps & became her sacred flowers. #MythologyMonday
