US navy boards a Hong Kong-owned oil ship in Venezuela.

This is potentially a repeat of the Yinhe incident in 1993 Indian Ocean, the US alleged the China-based container ship Yinhe of carrying chemical weapon materials to Iran.

A standoff ensued, eventually China allowed the US navy to board the ship, and of course nothing was found.

That incident was the match that lit a grudge that continues to this day. Yinhe incident is among the top reasons, at least rhetorically, why we are in the midst of the biggest naval build up in history.

Perhaps this could be the reason why we may entertain a military base in the Americas.

The different departments of the Trump administration are not talking to each other, the hands, mouth and brain isn't connected, creating a bunch of amateurs contradicting each other.

Despite that, the overall picture is clear, the US has turtled back to its hemisphere. In the short term, Trump is trying to build up enough goodwill for a state visit to China.

But things like this doesn't help.
