@MckaylaBallew @WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Hey Mckayla I really liked how you mentioned the responding compassionately part. I definitely agree with that and as future teachers it is important that we portray that characteristic.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 To have empathy means to be understanding and be considerate of another individual's feelings and emotions. As a teacher it is important to demonstrate empathy so that the students are open to sharing and have trust in you as well.
@Faguilar07@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Hey Fernanda, I thought it was neat how you focused more on a material perspective. Having the appropriate materials and resources definitely is a big component that helps our students and their families as well in order to become informed.
@TovarAlexsus@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Hey Alexus, I really liked how you mentioned the goal aspect! Additionally, it was great that you pointed out others being seen, heard, and accepted. Often times, that is not done unfortunately.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 We work together by collaborating and seeing what works best for the students learning and well-being. We build a culture/community of acceptance by being fair and equal with everyone and showing respect towards everyone.
@Stephan57524108@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Hey Stephanie, I really liked how you mentioned the aspect of them coming to us for support and in particular the harder times. I can totally agree with us being someone they can seek for help.
@Lifewith_paulaG@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 Hey Paula, I really liked how you mentioned assessing their needs and situations. I can agree that it is a very essential thing and form of advocating for them. Lastly, there definitely is always room for learning and growth!
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1 We can be advocates for our students by supporting them and allowing their opinions to be spoken out loud without them feeling discouraged. Additionally, we can encourage the students to be active and participate in expressing themselves and their ideas.
@Lifewith_paulaG@WrightMath314@joboaler@MrsGallardo1 I totally agree with how it does not allow for the students to grasp the why/how of the problem. Memorization in some topics like Math is not always beneficial. I liked how you mentioned it is more important for them to tell you how they got the answer!
@TovarAlexsus@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Great answer! Number talks really is beneficial and seems to keep the students engaged while a lot of learning amongst each other is taking place. Number talks really develops understanding of math as you mentioned.
@MckaylaBallew @WrightMath314@joboaler@MrsGallardo1 I loved your response. It is very unfortunate that this actually occurs since it is a major factor that affects students and their perception on Math and how well they perform. Great job!
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Some reasons for math anxiety are the requirement of memorizing time tables up to 12 x 12 by age 9. Additionally having timed tests causes a lot of stress and can cause working memory to get blocked. Because of this, students turn away from Math and claim to not be a Math person.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler Benefits of students participating in Number Talks are that they are able to explore and work with numbers through something that is enjoyable/engaging. Number sense is developed through sharing different strategies in addition to learning which is taking place at the same time.
@WrightMath314@MrsGallardo1@joboaler The memorization is unnecessary and damaging because math tables are not the whole of Mathematics. Secondly due to Stephen Byers' error it became a requirement to memorize facts 12 x 12 by age 9 which resulted in a predicted Math anxiety rise & students turning away from math.
I think it was a wonderful idea that we had the CSUB slow chat! This course has really gotten me more into technology and exposed to more resources. #csubedte4200#csubted
@CynthiaMEvans1@tom_karnes Wow, this reminded me of a keyboarding class I took in the beginning of freshman year and it really did teach me so many other great things besides typing! I became much more interested in technology after that class. @doctor2pi#csubted
@VanessaSmile13@Ststansberry Technology is such a powerful tool with many pros and cons especially with its great exposure to everyone. Most importantly how technology enables us to connect with each other with out distance mattering is so beneficial for everyone not just educators. @doctor2pi#csubedte4200
@AllisonCheatwo1@teachsci8@Duncannedd I definitely agree with how we introduce the technology (such as the how and why) is essential to how the students respond in the classrooms and the use of whatever technology tool we present to them. @doctor2pi#csubedte4200
@LupitaL88276071@teachsci8@Duncannedd I think that the technology does play a very important factor because the students may not see it as a privilege sometimes, but more like an additional tool to have fun, especially since so many kids at a young age are exposed to technology. @doctor2pi#csubedte4200
