New Anthropic research: How AI agents shape experts' judgment calls
When experts delegate work to an agent, do they still make the key decisions? We tested this in a randomized trial with 50 professional data analysts.
But as more work is handed to AI—including AI safety research—these judgment calls are the main levers for people's own values to influence outcomes.
If people defer to AI without noticing, then "human in the loop" might provide less assurance than people expect.
What can we do about this?
I think we need a much better understanding of how agents shape people's decisions, in and out of work.
I also think there are ways we can design both model behavior and AI products to better support human agency.
@alexshander03@JudgmentLabs It's also judgment in people and organizations that risks degrading with successful agent systems. Use AI, Preserve Your judgment.
Another day, another record for the North Atlantic. Everything is happening so fast, it's hard to get a sense of the enormity of these anomalies, let alone their consequences.
The largest demonstration in the modern history of Estonia took place in support of Ukraine. I am grateful to the Estonian people and @AlarKaris for their solidarity in these difficult times. Mr. President, our vyshyvanka suits you.
Excellent to see @IPPR and @GeorgeDibb recommending government adopt moon-shots to boost recovery from Covid-19. Great read on why shifting power in the economy is critical to building back better!
@indy_johar This may be the status quo but it's not the mandate of these capital fiduciaries who are distinctly responsible for the evergreen benefits of their members across generations. Theyre focused on financialised assets because trapped in WallSt logic
The singular focus on carbon will systemically offset the economy into the production of an adjacent set of toxins which will accelerate the pollution of our air, land and water. Carbon is a symptom of failure. The transition has to bigger than carbon.
Be it pension funds, global asset holders or insurers, their fundamental interests are focused on the preservation & the relative enhancement of financialised assets at the expense of “non financialised” assets - future generations, or relatively global north and global south..
Our politicians are trapped in trying to address the immediate needs of jobs, stagnant wages, a broken social contract, an ageing electorate and our existential risks of climate risk, automation and a shifting geopolitics - all sitting on systemically unsustainable society.
In contrast an economics of hope is near infinite, for positive sum game future - not a material growth but an intangible growth which expands the field of cooperation, standing by necessity on a rule of law with moral arc & an unfurling of imagination
