Environmental protection is one of the defining challenges of our time. It is not only about preserving nature; it is about safeguarding our health, strengthening our economies, and ensuring sustainable #development in harmony with nature for generations to come.

The publication of the Environmental Performance #Index 2026, produced by two of the world's most respected academic institutions, the #Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy and #Columbia University, brings encouraging news for Albania, and at a particularly important moment.

Ranked 1st in the Western Balkans and 46th globally out of 177 countries assessed, #Albania has emerged as the region’s leading environmental performer, while also recording the largest improvement in environmental performance over the past decade.

Particularly noteworthy is Albania’s 21st-place ranking worldwide in #Climate Change Mitigation, reflecting tangible progress in reducing emissions and advancing the transition to a greener, low-carbon economy.

These results are encouraging, but they also remind us that #environmental protection is a continuous responsibility.

They reaffirm that our commitment to the highest environmental standards and to a sustainable future remains unwavering, first and foremost for our own citizens and future generations, but also as an integral part of Albania’s path toward membership in the European Union.

Facts matter. Truth be told.

Deklarata e një anëtari të qeverisë së #Serbisë, që shpreh publikisht keqardhje që në #Kosovë nuk është kryer një #spastrim etnik edhe më i madh, është e papranueshme, tronditëse dhe një fyerje e rëndë për viktimat e luftës.

Relativizimi dhe normalizimi i një prej krimeve më të rënda kundër njerëzimit, krime të dënuara nga historia, nga drejtësia ndërkombëtare dhe nga vetë ndërgjegjja njerëzore, bien ndesh me vlerat mbi të cilat është ndërtuar #Evropa e sotme. Ato minojnë përpjekjet për pajtim dhe bashkëpunim, ushqejnë mosbesimin dhe urrejtjen, si dhe rihapin plagë që ende nuk janë shëruar.

Askush nuk mund të ndërtojë #besim duke rikthyer hijet më të errëta të së kaluarës, aq më pak duke lartësuar politika dhe figura që mbajnë përgjegjësi për tragjedi, vuajtje dhe krime që kanë lënë gjurmë të thella në historinë e rajonit tonë sic është "kasapi i #Ballkanit".

Procesi i normalizimit dhe i pajtimit, për të cilin Kosova, Serbia dhe i gjithë rajoni ynë kanë aq shumë nevojë, kërkon para së gjithash #përgjegjësi, #reflektim dhe #guxim për t’u përballur me të kaluarën.

Ai nuk mund të ndërtohet kurrë mbi deklarata që justifikojnë apo lartësojnë politikat që sollën aq shumë dhimbje e shkatërrim, por vetëm e vetëm mbi të #vërtetën, #respektin për viktimat dhe angazhimin e sinqertë për një të ardhme të përbashkët #evropiane.

📍Brussels -- Albania and Montenegro are now widely and unequivocally recognised as the #frontrunners of the EU accession process from the Western Balkans. Yesterday’s “Super Tuesday” and the progress achieved in our negotiations once again confirmed this reality.

But that is only part of the story.

On the very same day, the European Commission provided another important recognition, this time on the second and complementary key track of European path: the implementation of the EU Growth Plan for the #WesternBalkans.

Speaking before the European Parliament, Director-General for Enlargement, @GertJanEU highlighted #Albania as one of the region’s top performers, with an expected implementation rate of around 80% as of June 2026, alongside #Montenegro.

This is not simply a statistic. It reflects the determination of our Government and institutions, the commitment of our public administration, and the sustained pace of reforms undertaken across the country.

More importantly, it confirms a broader reality: progress towards the European Union is only measured by delivery. By implementation. By results.

As Albania enters the most decisive phase of its accession process, we remain fully committed to maintaining this momentum, implementing the reforms agreed under the @GrowthPlan, and ensuring that the benefits of European accession path are increasingly felt by our citizens.

Our #European future, and the Albania we all want, is taking shape through concrete achievements, sustained effort, and hard work.

A few key dates that tell the incredible story of an extraordinary journey:

📍 14 October 2024 – #Albania had opened zero negotiating chapters.

📍 17 November 2025 – Albania had opened all 33 negotiating chapters.

📍 26 May 2026 – Albania became the first negotiating country to achieve the #IBAR under the new methodology.

📍 14 July 2026 – Albania enters the final phase of negotiations by provisionally closing its first three chapters:

✅ Chapter 25 – Science and Research
✅ Chapter 26 – Education and Culture
✅ Chapter 30 – External Relations

What looks like dates on a timeline are in fact milestones that reflect an extraordinary transformation, the result of hard work, genuine and continued institutional commitment, strong determination, and unwavering political will.

When ambition is matched with delivery, progress becomes possible, visible, measurable, real.

Albania condemns in the strongest possible terms the renewed attacks launched by #Iran against its Arab Gulf neighbours. Such actions, in blatant disregard of international law and the principles of the UN Charter, further escalate tensions, undermine regional stability, and pose a serious threat to international peace and security.

Iran’s continued resort to confrontation, coupled with its failure to engage constructively and in good faith with the United States in efforts to address outstanding concerns, including those related to its #nuclear programme, reflects a troubling disregard for dialogue, de-escalation, and the security of the wider region.

These developments are deeply concerning, but unfortunately not surprising.

For years, #Albania has been and continues to be to this day the target of sustained cyberattacks, influence operations, and other hybrid activities irrefutably attributed to Iran, a state sponsor and supporter of terrorist activities, aimed at disrupting our institutions and undermining our national security.

Albania stands firmly in solidarity with all countries affected by these attacks and reiterates its unwavering support for sovereignty, territorial integrity, international law, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

📍Rome -- Pleased to participate in the meeting of the Group of Friends of the Western Balkans, hosted by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, @Antonio_Tajani, a timely opportunity to reaffirm our shared commitment to the #European future of the region.

We cannot emphasise this enough: at a moment when Europe faces profound geopolitical challenges, enlargement remains one of the European Union’s most successful strategic investments in peace, stability, security, and prosperity. Preserving momentum in the accession process is therefore not only vital for #Albania and the Western Balkans; it is equally important for the future strength, resilience, and geopolitical credibility of Europe itself.

I underlined in particular the importance of preserving the #credibility of the enlargement process, which must remain firmly merit-based, on both sides: candidate countries must deliver reforms and fulfil their commitments, while the European Union must recognise and reward progress.

Our objective remains clear. We will stay the course with the same determination, commitment, and sense of purpose that have guided us thus far. #Albania will continue to do whatever is necessary to conclude accession negotiations by 2027 and achieve its strategic goal of becoming a member of the European family within this decade. This is not only a national ambition; it is a commitment rooted in our reforms, supported by our citizens, and driven by our conviction that Albania’s future lies firmly within the EU.

The current window of opportunity is historic. We have a collective responsibility to seize it and complete the European reunification project, building a Europe that is stronger, safer, more resilient, and more united in facing the challenges of the future.

📍Ankara -- Today's announcement at the conclusion of the NATO Summit in Ankara, reaffirming the decision taken at the NATO Summit in The Hague to hold the next NATO #Summit in Albania, marks yet another historic milestone for our country.

Hosting the Alliance's leaders is both a great honour and a profound responsibility, one that Albania is ready to assume with pride and determination. Above all, it is a clear recognition of our country's unwavering commitment to our shared values, Euro-Atlantic security, and collective defence.

It also reflects the trust that our Allies place in #Albania and acknowledges our growing role as a reliable contributor to regional stability and to the broader #European security architecture.

It will be yet another opportunity for Albania to demonstrate its ability to perform on the biggest international stage, successfully hosting an event of such magnitude and strategic importance while showcasing professionalism as well as the exceptional #hospitality and warmth for which our country is known.

Ankara -- It was a pleasure to meet today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, @AnitaAnandMP. 🇦🇱🇨🇦

We reaffirmed the excellent relations between our two countries and agreed to further strengthen our political dialogue, step up our joint efforts to explore new opportunities for expanding cooperation, particularly in the areas of economy and trade. In this regard, we welcomed the recent launch of direct flights between #Tirana and #Toronto, which will further strengthen people-to-people ties and exchanges.

We agreed that the establishment of the Defence, Security and Resilience Bank, aimed at creating a multilateral financial mechanism to support the development of defence, security and resilience capabilities, will make an important contribution to advancing our shared objectives.

We also exchanged views on the current security dynamics in #Europe, developments in the Western #Balkans, #Albania's EU accession process, and reaffirmed our strong and unwavering support for #Ukraine.

📌 Në zemër të këtij procesit transformativ të zhvillimit qëndron një e vërtetë e thjeshtë: një shtet është aq i fortë dhe i përgjegjshëm sa është funksionale dhe e aftë administrata e tij. 📌 Gjatë procesit të #negociatave është krijuar një brez i ri nëpunësish publikë me ekspertizë të specializuar mbi acquis communautaire, metodologjinë e zgjerimit dhe koordinimin ndërinstitucional. Ky kapital njerëzor përfaqëson sot me njnjë nga asetet më të çmuara të shtetit shqiptar. Shqiptarët kanë arsye të jenë krenarë për skuadrën e tyre evropiane, për ekipin negociator dhe për administratën që ka dëshmuar se zotëron jo vetëm kapacitetet profesionale, por edhe besueshmërinë për të çuar përpara një proces kaq kompleks dhe vendimtar për të ardhmen e vendit.

Vlerësimi i performancës duhet të mbështetet në kritere objektive dhe të matshme, ndërsa puna dhe përkushtimi i nëpunësve publikë duhet të marrin edhe vlerësimin dhe mirënjohjen që meritojnë nga shoqëria.

📌 Një administratë moderne nuk ndërtohet vetëm për ditën e anëtarësimit. Ajo ndërtohet që sot, me standardet, kulturën dhe përgjegjësinë e një vendi që e sheh veten jo vetëm në prag të Bashkimit Evropian, por tashmë pjesë të hapësirës së tij institucionale dhe të vlerave që ai përfaqëson.

📌 Në këtë kuadër, edhe shërbimi #konsullor, si pjesë integrale e shërbimit publik, do të vazhdojë të transformohet, të përmirësohet, në përputhje me standardet më të mira evropiane, për të garantuar në çdo kohë shërbime më cilësore, më të shpejta, më efikase dhe sa më pranë qytetarëve. Albania strongly condemns the latest brutal #Russian attack on Kyiv, which killed and injured dozens of civilians and caused extensive damage to residential buildings. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected.

Once again, as #Ukraine continues to strengthen its ability to defend itself and impose increasing costs on Russia's war of aggression, the Kremlin has responded by intensifying its attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure. This has become a clear and deeply disturbing pattern: when confronted with setbacks on the battlefield, Russia escalates its campaign of terror against civilian populations, choosing to inflict greater suffering on innocent people rather than change course.

Russia's deliberate and systematic targeting of Ukraine's residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law. The killing of civilians, including children in last night's attack on Kyiv, once again underscore the indiscriminate and inhumane nature of Russia's actions.

#Albania stands in full solidarity with Ukraine and reaffirms its unwavering support for its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Russia must be held accountable for its aggression and for all crimes committed against the Ukrainian people.

At a time of profound geopolitical challenges, Cyprus has steered the Council with vision, unity and a steadfast commitment to advancing the European agenda. Its strong focus on enlargement, including Albania's EU accession path, has been instrumental in sustaining momentum towards a stronger, more united and more resilient #Europe.

Një përfundim që nuk le vend për mëdyshje.

Pas afër katër muajsh në detyrë, kohë gjatë të cilës kam takuar dhe biseduar me të gjithë homologët e mi në vendet anëtare të Bashkimit Evropian, në rajon dhe në mbarë hapësirën evropiane; pasi kam zhvilluar qindra takime me zyrtarë, diplomatë, gazetarë, ekspertë dhe studiues që ndjekin e analizojnë zhvillimet gjeopolitike; dhe pasi kam marrë pjesë në dhjetëra ministeriale, konferenca, forume, takime e aktivitete ndërkombëtare, një përfundim del qartë:

👉 Kurrë më parë në historinë e saj, Shqipëria nuk ka pasur një emër më të mirë në botë dhe një zë më të fortë në arenën ndërkombëtare.

👉 Asnjëherë më parë, Shqipëria nuk ka gëzuar marrëdhënie të tilla miqësie e bashkëpunimi, të besueshme dhe të konsoliduara me partnerët dhe aleatët e saj, si në planin dypalësh, ashtu edhe në atë shumëpalësh.

👉 Në asnjë moment të historisë sonë, Shqipëria nuk ka qenë më e respektuar, më e vlerësuar, më e dëshiruar dhe më e vizituar se sa është sot, me derën të hapur kudo dhe e mirëpritur gjithkund.

👉 Në çdo kryeqytet ku kam qenë gjatë kësaj kohe, kam ndjerë të njëjtën frymë dhe kam përjetuar të njëjtën gjë: Shqipëria dëgjohet me më shumë vëmendje, trajtohet me më shumë respekt dhe, mbi të gjitha, shihet si një partner serioz, i besueshëm dhe me kontribut konkret e me potencial për të ofruar më shumë, edhe për Evropën edhe për rajonin.

👉 Jo më pak domethënës dhe kuptimplotë është edhe ndryshimi i perceptimit.

Sot, emri #Shqipëri lidhet gjithnjë e më shumë me lirinë, suksesin, zhvillimin, turizmin, mikpritjen, energjinë pozitive dhe një shoqëri dinamike në transformim të pandalshëm, pasqyrimi i një realiteti tërësisht të transformuar: i një Shqipërie më të hapur, më konkurruese dhe më të pranishme se kurrë më parë në hartën politike, ekonomike dhe turistike të Evropës.

👉 Dhe, mbi të gjitha, Shqipëria është në prag të realizimit të ëndrrës që bashkon shqiptarët kudo ku jetojnë, në çdo cep të vendit dhe në çdo anë të globit: anëtarësimit në Bashkimin Evropian dhe rikthimit të plotë në përkatësinë tonë historike, politike dhe qytetëruese evropiane.

Ky nuk është thjesht një moment historik.

Është një mundësi që vjen një herë në breza. Një dritare unike për të përmbushur aspiratën më të madhe kombëtare dhe për ta rikthyer Shqipërinë aty ku ka qenë gjithmonë vendi i saj i natyrshëm.

Por një mundësi e tillë nuk realizohet vetvetiu.

Ajo kërkon edhe më shumë përkushtim, edhe më shumë përgjegjësi, edhe më shumë punë, energji dhe vendosmëri.

Mbi të gjitha, kërkon kontributin e secilit prej nesh, përtej dallimeve politike, bindjeve apo vendit ku jetojmë.

Sepse anëtarësimi në Bashkimin Evropian është projekti ynë kombëtar.

Dhe pikërisht si i tillë, ai kërkon bashkimin e energjive tona më të mira, në mënyrë që këtë moment historik ta shndërrojmë në arritjen më të madhe të Shqipërisë demokratike dhe në një trashëgimi të qëndrueshme për brezat që do të vijnë.

Vetëm një dekikë mjafton për të hedhur vështrimin pas dhe për të kuptuar se ku ishim dhe ku gjendemi sot;

📍 Dubrovnik -- On the sidelines of the #DubrovnikForum2026 I met with Dr. Oleg Levitin, Head of Political Affairs at the EBRD.

We reaffirmed the excellent partnership between #Albania and the #EBRD, a trusted development partner that has played a pivotal role in supporting our country's economic transformation over the years.

I briefed on Albania's EU accession process, which has entered its most decisive phase, and exchanged views on the current dynamics in the Western Balkans, underlining the importance of regional cooperation and stability.

Looking ahead to the EBRD Annual Meeting and Business Forum, which Albania will host in 2028, we agreed that this is a strong recognition of our economic progress, ambitious reform agenda, and growing investment potential.

📍 Nicosia -- An excellent meeting with Constantinos Kombos, @ckombos, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Cyprus.

I expressed our sincere gratitude for Cyprus’s steadfast support for Albania’s EU accession process, particularly in relation to the successful completion of the #IBAR, a landmark achievement and a decisive milestone on Albania’s EU path.

EU membership, through a fair, credible, and merit-based negotiation process, is our foremost strategic objective and the strongest catalyst for democratic consolidation, institutional transformation, economic modernization, and sustainable development.

We reaffirmed the excellent state of relations between our two countries and our shared ambition to further strengthen this partnership and expand cooperation across a broad range of areas.

While our political dialogue is already strong and constructive, we agreed to explore practical avenues for enhancing economic and business ties, including trade, investment, tourism, education, and other sectors of mutual interest that can bring tangible benefits to our peoples and economies.

We also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, with particular attention to the #Mediterranean, the #MiddleEast, the #WesternBalkans, and the broader European agenda, reaffirming our shared commitment to peace, stability, effective #multilateralism, and international cooperation.

Following its endorsement by the #AFET Committee in May, the European Parliament @Europarl_EN adopted today the EU accession #progress report on Albania with an overwhelming majority. 🇦🇱🇪🇺

With 483 votes in favour out of 656 Members voting, representing nearly 74% support, the Parliament has once again reaffirmed its strong backing for #Albania’s EU accession path and recognised the substantial progress our country has achieved across key reform areas.

This is yet another important vote of confidence in Albania’s European future and in the transformation driven by years of determined reforms and hard work.

The message is clear: Albania’s European journey is advancing, our reform efforts are producing tangible results, and our objective of joining the European Union is both realistic and within reach.

Our sincere thanks go to the European Parliament, to Rapporteur @SCHIEDER, and to all those who continue to champion a credible, fair, and merit-based enlargement process.

Of course, much work still lies ahead. That is precisely the purpose of the accession negotiations: to continue delivering the reforms necessary to meet the standards of membership and ensure lasting transformation.

We remain fully committed to maintaining the current momentum, accelerating reforms, concluding accession negotiations by 2027, and achieving full EU membership by 2030.

📍Luxembourg -- A brief but very productive exchange with State Minister for European Affairs at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Günter Krichbaum, focussed on Albania’s EU accession path and the current dynamics of EU enlargement.

We discussed the opportunities created by the renewed momentum behind #enlargement and agreed on the importance of preserving a credible, merit-based process, complemented by concrete and targeted steps towards #gradual integration that bring candidate countries closer to the European Union as they advance on reforms.

📍Sofia, Bulgaria - I was pleased to have a meaningful exchange with the President of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, Mihaela Dotsova. 🇦🇱🇧🇬

We reaffirmed the strong partnership between #Albania and #Bulgaria and our shared commitment to further expanding cooperation in key areas such as the economy, energy, tourism, and connectivity. In this context, we underscored the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, including through parliamentary friendship groups, as a valuable instrument for strengthening bilateral ties.

We also discussed Albania’s EU integration path, the importance of continued support from EU Member States, and the strategic significance of the #European future of the #WesternBalkans for the stability, security, and prosperity of both the region and the European Union.

Finally, we highlighted the important role of the minorities in our respective countries in fostering people-to-people connections and further strengthening the cultural, historical, and human ties that bring our nations closer together.
