Death toll in Kramatorsk rises to 33 people.
Russian strikes killed at least 28 people yesterday in cities across Ukraine, including 22 in Pryluky. Today, at least 36 have been killed by Russian bombs: 33 in Kramatorsk and three in Kyiv, according to authorities.
64 people killed by Russian weapons in the past day and a half.
This video shows that Russian aggression toward Ukraine didn't start in 2014 or 2022. In July 1993, under Yeltsin, the Russian parliament declared Sevastopol a Russian city. Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov repeatedly traveled to Crimea calling to take back the peninsula. Zhirinovsky went on TV promising to dismember Ukraine and said that only six western regions might ever be allowed independence.
Putin didn't invent Russian imperialism. He took what was already boiling in society, scaled it up, and turned it into state ideology. The root cause of this war isn't one man in the Kremlin but an empire that never came to terms with its own collapse.
Extraordinary account from Bloomberg of what it now takes to move oil through Hormuz.
One tanker captain describes sailing at night with no navigational lights, phones or AIS, hugging the Omani coast under U.S. military protection, and maneuvering around a vessel that had just been attacked. His own ship was later targeted.
The risks are so high that crews are being paid multiples of their normal salaries, with one shipowner reportedly offering six months of extra pay for Hormuz shuttle duty.
More oil may be getting through, but at very high risk and cost.

An accomplishment of a war can’t be to return to where you started from before the war.
To get to this place again, Americans died, Iranians died, people in the region died, the world endured huge inflation, Americans spent billions in weapons used, Americas reputation around the world nosedived.
Pretty high price to pay just to get right back where we started from.
A fire broke out after an attack at the Sasta machine-tool plant, which is also the site of a Yandex data center, in Sasovo, Russia’s Ryazan region.
It is reported that the Yandex data center suffered a major outage. The company said operations at its Sasovo center have been completely halted and services may experience disruptions. Power supply problems disrupted a wide range of Yandex Cloud components, including computing resources, networks, data storage, databases, Kubernetes, cloud services, AI systems, security tools, and monitoring systems.
Wikimapia data confirms that the data center is located on the factory grounds. Last month, employees also showed equipment at the facility and said it was located in Sasovo.
Sasta manufactures CNC machine tools. Its equipment is used in Russia’s defense, aerospace, transport, and heavy industries. The company is under international sanctions.
The Russians murdered another 24 Ukrainians last night with missile & drone strikes on cities. Where are the sanctions? Where are more air defenses? I do comment Germany for stepping up here. The Free World, to include the U.S., are falling short. Russian war crimes cannot be ignored.
Overall, 25 people were killed in this massive Russian strike on Ukraine. One hundred people were injured. It was a combined attack, involving many ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as “shaheds.” This is the kind of “gift” Putin gave himself for his birthday.
Ukrainian warriors shot down 44 missiles – both cruise and ballistic. Not all of those launched by Russia, and ballistic missiles are especially difficult to deal with. We suppressed 117 “shaheds” – most of those launched, but unfortunately, not all of them either.
Additional packages of air defense missiles are needed, as are additional measures to support Ukraine. And there will be appropriate packages. The threat is there every day, and every day, our air defense batteries need to have missiles ready. We strongly count on prompt deliveries from our partners.
Today, as a birthday “gift” to Putin, the Russian army destroyed a residential building in Pryluky, in the Chernihiv region. It was an ordinary five-story apartment building. Tragically, as of now, five people have been reported killed and 26 injured, including five children. There may still be people under the rubble. First responders are working nonstop at the site – doing everything possible to find every person. Russian missile strikes also damaged five apartment buildings in Dnipro and four high-rise buildings in Kremenchuk. Tragically, two people were killed and eight injured. A high-rise building in Zaporizhzhia was damaged by a drone. In Kyiv, the Russians killed two people. Two more people were killed in Oleksandriya… My condolences to all the families and loved ones of those killed. Overall, infrastructure in Kyiv and 12 regions came under attack last night.
One of the key targets was our energy infrastructure. The Russians wanted to strike painfully and demonstratively. This was one of the most vile strikes: 70 missiles in total, many of them ballistic, as well as “shaheds.” Unfortunately, only some of them were shot down. Russian ballistic missiles remain the greatest challenge. And air defense packages for us right now are a vital necessity. That is why every day we are looking for missiles for Patriot systems that can and must actually protect people’s lives here, in Ukrainian skies. Thank you to everyone who is helping us.
Gut wrenching. Authorities have pulled the bodies of three children from the building hit by a Russian missile in Pryluky. Rescuers continue to search through the rubble for missing residents. At least nine people were killed just in this strike; at least 15 killed across Ukraine by Russian missiles and drones. https://t.co/Bj3VLofEe1
‼️The first footage showing the aftermath of a missile strike on a five-story residential building in Pryluky.
In the early hours of October 7, russia attacked the Ukrainian city of Pryluky in the Chernihiv region. One of the strikes almost completely destroyed a residential building, leaving many people trapped under the rubble.
So far, at least five people have reportedly been killed and 20 more injured. Emergency crews continue to work at the site, and the death toll may rise throughout the day.

On Putin’s birthday, Russian generals brought him his favorite present: war crimes.
A massive attack with hundreds of missiles and drones hit residential buildings and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kremenchuk, and Pryluky. At least two people were killed in the capital and four more accross the country.
What Russian generals fail to tell Putin is that he is not winning this war and never will.
He has lost 1.6 million troops killed and injured without achieving a single strategic goal of his invasion. His slow advances have stalled and Ukraine started to liberate more land than he manages to occupy. His economy is in decline and his influence around the world is waning. All of this because he refuses to end this war.
Yes, it’s very difficult for Ukraine too. But the Ukrainian people are not going to give up, because it’s about Ukraine’s survival as a nation and as a state.
Russia's terror must not go unanswered.
Following this attack, I urge all partners to give Putin real presents that will help him finally choose diplomacy over war. Stronger sanctions on his military-industrial complex, including facilities producing ballistic missiles and the Rassvet satellite system, as well as stronger support for Ukraine, including all kinds of air defense and energy assistance ahead of winter.
But his ultimate present will be a dock in The Hague. We are preparing the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression Against Ukraine for practical launch already next year. Putin and his friends should know that accountability is inevitable.
.@ezraklein: “What is, to you, the ‘rage economy’?”
@JamesTalarico: “The billionaires own the algorithms and the news networks. They have created for-profit platforms that divide us on an hourly basis — by party, by race, by gender, by religion. They elevate the most extreme voices very strategically to provoke our outrage, because that leads to more clicks, which leads to more money for them.
They are selling us conflict right into our bloodstream, and they’re calling it connection.
And I think it’s left people starving for actual community.”
