Live from #AIWEEK2025, listening to @AlecJRoss - former innovation advisor to Obama and senior State Department official, now professor at Bologna Business School - share his perspective on the European #AI regulation. He views the #AIAct as a symptom of Europe's strategic misstep in the global AI race.

#AlecRoss sharply criticizes the AI Act, arguing it was drafted by tech-illiterate bureaucrats without meaningful input from industry experts. He contends that #Europe has chosen to referee the AI competition between the US and China, forgetting that referees never lift the trophy. He describes the regulation as a monumental error that should be suspended or scrapped, blaming it for freezing investments, blocking scientific research (including cancer research), and driving brain drain in the #Tech sector.

While I share concerns about restrictions on research and #Innovation, I believe targeted regulation remains essential. AI applications with significant impact on #Privacy and potential for discrimination - particularly #HR systems for recruitment and performance evaluation - require appropriate regulatory frameworks to protect fundamental rights.

The challenge lies in striking a balance between protection and competitiveness.
