I feel like I shouldn’t be here following and watching the match, because every time I did, she looses. The curse started in AO, pls #AlexEala break it! 🙏
@AustralianOpen Found out about her during her run in Miami 2025. I didn’t waste time and saw her in AO 2026, although she didn’t win it was a historical moment for us Filipinos. I’ve been going to AO the last 11yrs, finally I have something more personal to look forward to every year. #AlexEala
At only 21, the tennis phenom Alex Eala is likely already the best-ever player from Southeast Asia. Now she is seeking her first Grand Slam title at this summer’s U.S. Open. https://t.co/1TvAaGlmJu
Alex Eala on how aware she is of the impact she’s having on tennis, ‘Every single WTA & ATP player has contributed to the world of tennis & its history just by being here & by putting in the work every single day… I think I’m a drop in the ocean when it comes to these things’
“I’m curious how aware you are of the impact you’re having on tennis. I think everyone in the media is aware that, put your name in the headlines for something and it’ll get 10 times the hits. It’s a game changer for the sport in terms of attention, economy. That’s a lot on one persons shoulders. I wondered how aware you are of that and how you experience that…”
Alex: “At the forefront of everything is gratitude. I’m very grateful for the support that my fans give me and that my supporters give me. In terms of what I contribute to tennis, every single WTA and ATP player has contributed to the world of tennis and its history just by being here and by putting in the work every single day. Although there are certain things like the media, and the things you mentioned that make me stand out, I think I’m a drop in the ocean when it comes to these things. The more I’m on tour the more I learn about the history. This year having had the pleasure to play doubles twice with Venus, I’ve learned a lot about her mentality on court, but also things about how she championed equal prize money with her sister. Things like that. Maybe the regular player on tour who’s not so exposed to the media, what they’ve had to work towards and what they’ve had to work through to get to where they are now is so inspiring in itself. There are so many stories behind the scenes you might not even realize. That really keeps me humble, it keeps me motivated to work harder and be among and stay among these incredible people.”❤️

Tennis phenom Alex Eala is already one of the most famous figures in her home country. But the U.S. Open provides a stage where a national hero can become an international superstar—and be served supersized paydays.
