Southern Indiana again demonstrates what's wrong with Vail Resorts. Independent Perfect North Slopes made snow at every opportunity and opened December 5th. They're cranking this weekend from 8:30 am to midnight with 90+% of terrain. Vail-owned Paoli Peaks didn't make snow in November, delayed opening to January 3rd and lasted one week before closing. One of these mountains is a family business and the other's parent company has $1.5 billion in liquidity.
Can't emphasize enough how bad a 25% tariff on Canadian goods would be for the US ski industry. That's 25% on:
- Doppelmayr UNI-G detachable lifts
- HKD snow guns
- Prinoth snow cats
- Skidoo snowmobiles
Canada retaliation would mean 25% tariff on US products headed to Canadian ski areas like:
- SMI snow guns
- Leitner-Poma lifts
- Doppelmayr fixed grip lifts
