Cattle market thoughts Part 2: $360 dressed isn't going to be high enough to fill packer needs this week. They have bought very small numbers the last couple weeks so should have a bunch to buy now. The collapse in basis provides no incentive to take $360. Hold the line.

Cattle market thoughts: Look at the price action in the weeks before the border announcement and the two days after and try to convince me that insiders didn't know ahead of time...@USDA has been as leaky as a sieve with its border policy announcements, and this needs to change.

@gwiesefarms Timing has a lot to do with it. The generation of kids raised in the 80’s and 90’s coming out of the farm crisis heard this a lot, and can you blame those dads and grandpas for that? The generation of kids raised on $5-7 corn have been much more likely to come home.

We own them for a year and that’s hard enough! 2024 purchases were obviously a home run if unhedged but 2025 purchases to be marketed in 2027 and 2026 purchases to be marketed in 2028 would be challenging.

Big group of bred heifers sold for $5,725 at Bassett today. Pretty remarkable, especially given what’s been happening in fats. I didn’t see the beginning of the sale so don’t even know if this was the top.
