After years of discussions, negotiations, and preparation, MiCA will officially enter into full application—ushering in the world's most comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto-assets.

This is a big opportunity for the European economy and financial sector, which has been struggling to regain its competitive edge. Since the financial crisis, European banks have lost 25% of their global market share. This is just one of many examples. Innovation in finance and technology is no longer optional—it’s indispensable.

Only time (and the market) will tell whether MiCA can achieve its goals of fostering innovation, creating a competitive local market, and protecting EU consumers. But one thing is clear to me: success will depend on a pragmatic, iterative approach to implementation and review. MiCA must be seen as a V1.0, with the flexibility to address emerging challenges (that certainly exist) and business models in future iterations.

A close and collaborative partnership between the industry, regulators, and policymakers will be crucial in this regard.
