I’d love to hear what the physicist mother in radiation oncology and the physician assistant sister of that guy who kicks balls for a living think about the diabolical lies they were told.
If you haven’t seen the Harrison Butker graduation speech, please go watch it.
Here’s a quote:
“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment.
You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives.
I want to speak directly to you briefly, because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.
How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world,
but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.
I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”
👀
This is the programming of so many people.
People believe women are here to support men. That our job is to create babies, not companies and jobs.
Not be equals.
I love being a partner.
I love being a mom.
But I also love my career and the fulfillment I get from my work.
If you’ve ever wondered what the patriarchy is, it’s this. This programming and thinking.
It causes subconscious hate and disgust for women who don’t follow these societal rules and expectations of what a woman “should” do and be.
I’m sorry to every graduate who had to sit there and listen to that.
Go on to change the world - however you choose.
Here is a summary of the latest #COVID19AB numbers: Today, there are 954 people in hospital due to COVID-19. Of the 738 non-ICU, 79.1% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Of the 216 in ICU, 91.2% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. (1/6)
Today I was notified that my patients’ surgeries are cancelled this week.
Some have been waiting a year.
I am so angry.
We saw this coming.
Choices made by our government have put our health at risk - the very politicians we pay to protect our health.

As @AHS_media said today: unit clerks, LPNs, health care aides, janitorial and kitchen staff are ESSENTIAL. I can't do my job and care for patients without them. Especially during a pandemic. Let's treat these team members like they're essential, shall we, AHS?
The UCP narrative of no “front line workers” being laid off is ridiculous and disrespectful. We are not an army, we are a team. I cannot do my job without lab services, housekeeping, laundry or food services. Neither can anyone else. https://t.co/ynrrNd8F0H
The #medbikini movement is one of the best medtwitter things I’ve ever seen. Doctors are people who do normal people things. Big thanks to the horribly misguided and borderline unethical vascular surgery publication that made it all possible.
1/ How physician recruitment is going to go down in the next few months in Alberta:
RECRUITER: So, you'll need 10+ years of post-secondary education...
DR: got that
RECRUITER: and you'll be responsible for making life-or-death decisions
DR: sure
@albertadoctors#AbLeg#abpoli
@Albertadoctors have had their contracts torn up during a pandemic. Denied the right to arbitration. Massive cuts to compensation. Denigrated on social media. And now @shandro is trying to force our own regulatory body to prevent us from leaving. What next?
One year in to residency and this remains the best piece of advice I ever got:
Don’t stand if you can sit
Don’t sit if you can lie down
And remember, the morning always comes

Most travel is done for now but the new Foothills hand sanitizers smell so strongly of tequila that you are transported to high school spring break in Cancún in between seeing patients... so that’s nice
