Clinically, we look at this as Extreme Displacement.
At 9 years old, a child's cognitive development is advanced enough to understand an infant's fragility. Unprovoked violence of this magnitude usually signifies a child maladaptively reclaiming attention or actively modeling severe environmental trauma.
The underlying driver is heavily pathological. It requires immediate safeguarding of the infant and a comprehensive psychiatric workup for the older sibling.
