Evil Republicans are not coming after your Social Security (please retire this lazy, stale scare tactic).
*Math* is coming after your Social Security - its scheduled for a 22% cut in 6 years when the trust fund hits zero. So where is your plan to bring solvency, Senator?
The extent to which MARTA is "cleaning itself up" for the World Cup vs. ordinary riders is visible in Decatur. The east entrance to the square is policed, staffed, and has fresh landscaping. The west entrance to the bus loop is degraded, has filthy sidewalks not power washed in ages, and broken glass at a bus shelter with what looks like a bullet hole (not fixed as of yesterday). Riders need to make an explicit demand to MARTA: treat ordinary riders like World Cup visitors after the games are over.
But luckily! The State of New York has an answer to this problem! THEY are happy to sell you this insurance. For just $300!! Isn’t that nice of them.
So congrats, New York, you get last.
My current ranking of states in terms of “how easy is it for a small business owner who’s their own HR to hire someone who lives there”:
1. Georgia
2. Tennessee
3. Alabama
4. Pennsylvania
5. New York
The fun part of this is, of course, no insurance carrier will give you a policy for one employee. And because it’s state based, I can’t even say “can I have a policy if I put my other employees in other states on it?” The answer is no.
MARTA should be a crown jewel and instead, it just sucks.
I rarely even take it to the airport anymore because there is so often a crazy person threatening people on the train.
The experience is worse than rush hour traffic on the Connector, which is SAYING something.
I was very surprised to see “Groceries” at the top of the list given percent of household spend on groceries has gone down enormously over time, food/agriculture is already heavily subsidized, and SNAP exists for low-income families.
As someone who was a budget hawk fifteen years ago, I would gently suggest that the case for freaking out about the deficit back then was that this was where we were going to end up.
