@soniasodha The two issues (principle and practice) are linked, but if (one/the public) is not against the principle then debate about the practice I think can be more constructive. Apols for thinking aloud on a Twitter thread; perhaps isn’t best place and maybe a minority pursuit nowadays.

Lewisham council is looking at scrapping support for ward assemblies as a cost saving.
This would be a mistake - Lewisham only has cllrs from one party, has weak backbench scrutiny, hides poor performance, has made it harder to ask public questions & little media scrutiny. (1/)
