I did some vectorscope testing recently, and tried flipping the errors into different quadrants; but it didn't help.
Guess retouching is the only option.
@CrocmanSnappy Quick question re CR PAL quadrant errors when odd/even fields are dissimilar. Wondered whether the erroneous colours have any relation to actual colours from the footage; or are they just generated randomly?
@CrocmanSnappy I wrote some code back in 2012/13 to try and auto-correct the PAL quadrant errors arising from these conditions; but could never make it work!
Think AviSynth's TweakColor plugin might resolve part of the problem; but I imagine you have similar tools at hand.
@CrocmanSnappy Aside from dark hues, the 2 other problem conditions for CR are pale colours (not much signal to retrieve) & rapid movement (as CR assumes identical fields). I wonder, has any progress been made in error correction for these issues?
@CrocmanSnappy Shadow hues are problematic because when the luma level falls too low, the negative half of the chroma waveform is probably clipped.
If these areas of the image should essentially be black, setting sat to zero when lum < user def threshold may produce a more pleasing result.
@CrocmanSnappy @ThatsChroma This is quite puzzling. If the geometric data-set was generated, the vital signal at 216 c/aph must be present. Otherwise the geometry couldn't be tracked. (In Dino 1 it was missing due to insufficient vertical resolution in the film print.)

@CrocmanSnappy For the same reason, they're also more prone to geometric changes caused by the luminance content of the picture: so the distortion changes from one shot to the next.
@CrocmanSnappy FR CRTs were very small: so the electromagnets were relatively large compared to the screen size. This would likely cause additional distortion of the EM field, leading to more nonlinear deflection of the electron beam than in a domestic CRT, especially in the left & right margin
@CrocmanSnappy I wonder, have you ever tried undistortion of Hartnell/Troughton episodes, using the Cura telesnaps as a reference?
Due to my work on the CR project, I have strong reasons to suspect telesnaps have more accurate geometry than 16mm film recordings.
