I am proud to sign an executive directive today to ensure our state departments can protect and increase protections for this fundamental right, and reaffirms that Michigan will not cooperate with anyone proceeding against an individual for seeking reproductive healthcare.
When I first ran for governor, someone said to me: “Just promise me you’ll show up as you are. Don’t dim yourself because of what other people think and feel, be who *you* are.”
I’ve carried that message with me through all the ups and downs.
While other states are passing extreme abortion bans and restricting fundamental rights, we expanded LGBTQ+ legal protections and repealed our draconian 1931 abortion ban.
No matter who you are, there’s a home for you in the Great Lakes State.

The TX judge said #mifepristone is too dangerous for women and doctors to use because there have been a total of 4,213 adverse events reported in more than 20 years.
In that same time period, there were 46,640 reported adverse events for Viagra.
#BansOffOurBodies
Today an extreme judge in Texas ruled to ban mifepristone, one of the most common forms of medication abortion. With this politically-motivated attack on reproductive freedom, over 64 million Americans, including Michiganders, may effectively be prevented from accessing the drug.
It’s the start of an important day, Michigan!
I heard Michiganders speak with a clear voice to protect reproductive freedom in our state. Today, I’m taking action to protect it by signing a repeal of our state’s dangerous 1931 abortion ban.
@nicholas_bagley Making Judge O'Connor actually the most progressive Republican appointee in recent memory since he only wants to set women back 13 years and not, say, 234+?
I'm furious that the #1 killer of kids in this country is gun violence.
And it's a uniquely American problem.
We should not, we cannot, accept living like this — and that’s why we’re taking action in Michigan.
@nicholas_bagley "All this is kinda frustrating" is "'Tis but a scratch" level of understatement. I wish the rest of the opinion were as funny as Holy Grail.
- Protecting the LGBTQ community instead of targeting it
- Strengthening gun safety rules instead of rolling them back
- Repealing old abortion bans instead of enacting new ones

The time for only thoughts and prayers is over. We are in a unique position to take action and save lives. And that’s exactly what we are going to do in the weeks ahead.
We're going to get this done for Arielle, Alexandria, and Brian. We’re going to get this done for Michigan.
Being a mom is: making a special VDay breakfast for your children. One of whom bursts into tears upon seeing it.
Reader, they were not tears of joy.
No one ate the breakfast.
