There’s a reason Pep sold Palmer when he was at City.

His profile is redundant in modern football, especially for coaches who prioritise work rate from their attackers out of possession.

Palmer is neither an elite creator like Ødegaard or Cherki, nor is he strong enough to be a touchline winger. He’s basically a half-space AM, which makes him a limited AM and winger who is physically inferior and poor out of possession.

He’ll get some odd goal contributions, but his presence in the team is a net negative because of how poor he is out of possession.

Chelsea should be looking to phase him out over the next few years if they genuinely want to move to the next level.
