@semaforben@daveweigel This is an interesting take. But its veracity hinges on whether or not the Trump admin and DOGE specifically are actually following court orders. I’d love to see an accounting of the court orders and whether they’re being followed, not followed, or we don’t know.
I have news for you - we aren’t taking over Gaza.
But the media and the chattering class will focus on it for a few days and Trump will have succeeded in distracting everyone from the real story - the billionaires seizing government to steal from regular people.
The last four years have been a total and complete failure by Biden and Democrats. Now we're left to suffer for their failures with potentially dire consequences for the country and our democracy. (link in next post)
@Kristian_Walsh It’s very Origi-esque. And everyone loves Origi. It’s just that the fee for Núñez is too much for a fifth attacker. Not his fault, though.
@_NoahHiles Ahh, yes, we owe some of the wealthiest people in the city civility when they’re actively sabotaging a city institution for personal financial gain. The fact they have deigned to condescend to speak with the masses warrants them a lack of overt opposition. Unreal. Fire Brown.
@wmata I understand there are delays due to required maintenance. But why can’t you hold/time trains at transfer stations? Sprinting up an escalator only to hear the doors closing chime is immensely frustrating.
Truly terrible experience with @wmata this weekend. 18 min. wait for a red line train at Woodley, full bus with multiple people taking up multiple seats, and a just missed transfer again on the red line (why not hold the trains at Metro Center) resulting in another 17 min. wait.
Literally an entire silver line train of people *just missed* a transfer. Why? No reason except WMATA can’t be bothered to figure out how to time/hold trains. Immensely frustrating.
What people want from VAR isn’t “the process was followed correctly. It’s “the right call was made.” Contriving reasons to follow the main ref’s call isn’t good for anyone. Just have VARs make the call that makes the most sense when they review it.
@HeerJeet I’m sympathetic to this argument but how do you square it with Harris performing significantly better in swing states than nationally? *Something* about the campaign was clearly working (even if lots of other stuff wasn’t).
@MC_of_A Bernie demonstrating the point. These are all left-coded positions framed as *contra* the Party. Being against the Party undermines the perception of ideological extremism by giving it authenticity. Crankiness, and also anti-party/anti-establishment vibes https://t.co/iCKsttYKFX
It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them.
While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change.
And they’re right.
@MC_of_A Maybe! But I'm inclined to think "crankiness," "authenticity," "anti-Party," and "anti-establishment" are overlapping and hard to disentangle. Maybe AOC's rise *despite* the Party would be perceived similarly.
@mattyglesias This piece is just the opposite of your own take. "One weird trick where Dems can win if they just marginalize the lefties." Just give everyone a chance to breath and process before starting the recriminations. https://t.co/UROlNZwEGY
