@weatherdan I’m no weather expert, but I usually use IEM for radar archives. I don’t love the user interface, but it does what it needs to do. It goes back to ~2003. You can find the loop and scaling settings under the options tab.

@JasonSonderfan@NWSMiami Celsius/Metric units are the standard in science and analysis. Similar to how Latin is the standard naming scheme in many studies
@4029Darby Weather model websites too 😂😵💫
Pivotal Weather: blue = clouds, white/gray = clear.
PolarWx: white/gray = clouds, blue = clear.
I like the latter better, probably because the color scheme contrast resembles water vapor/satellite imagery more
@4029Darby What exactly is causing the river valley to stay a few degrees cooler than NWA? Is it because the warmer air mass advecting over our region is struggling to mix down into the lower elevations? Fascinated by all things meteorology, so I’d love to hear your thoughts!
@LocalLoki10@weatherdan Weather radars shoot radio waves at a slight angle into the sky, (~0.5 to 4° off horizontal. As this beam travels it gains height. That means radar precip closer to the physical radar (Tulsa in this case), is actually detected lower in the atmosphere than precip farther away.
@LocalLoki10@weatherdan So what looks like a force field is actually where the beam is too low to detect the snow. It’s not until the beam reaches the edge of the “force field” that it’s high enough (around 3500ft) to detect it.
Pockets of thin clouds allowed for good views of the solar eclipse in Bentonville, AR! In this picture, the sun was filtered enough to safely view it with the naked eye. #SolarEclipse2023@4029Darby@weatherdan
@4029Darby It looks like the models didn’t expect the current line of storms to make it this far east. If it’s able to hold together this afternoon, how will it affect the second line that will be approaching our area late tonight? Would it help stabilize the atmosphere?
@AskAmex I was just accepted for a credit card, but I accidentally closed out of the screen that asked if I wanted to make a balance transfer. Will I still be able to make a balance transfer with the 0% introductory offer after I receive the card?
@4029Darby Darby, do you know what the record is for number of consecutive days without significant rain for Drake Field or XNA? I noticed it’s been about a month for DF, and it looks pretty dry for the near future
