No one knows this, but you don’t actually have to pay back credit cards
Your credit card debt is unsecured
The bank can't take your house. Can't take your car. Can't take your watch. Can't take your kid's college fund. Can't garnish your wages without a court order that takes 2 years to get
They can call you. They can mail you. They can report to the credit bureaus. They can sell your debt to a collector for 3 cents on the dollar. They can be mad
That's it. That's the list. That's every single thing a bank can do when you stop paying an unsecured credit card
"Unsecured" means no collateral. When you signed the credit card agreement, you didn't pledge your house. You didn't pledge your car. You didn't pledge anything. You signed a piece of paper that says "I promise to pay." That promise is worth exactly as much as your willingness to keep it
A mortgage is secured by the house. Stop paying and they take the house. A car loan is secured by the car. Stop paying and they take the car. A credit card is secured by nothing. Stop paying and they write you a letter
Here's the actual enforcement timeline when someone stops paying a credit card:
Day 1-30: you miss a payment. The bank sends a reminder. Your online portal shows "past due." Nothing happens
Day 31-60: second missed payment. The bank calls your phone. You don't answer. They leave a voicemail. A letter arrives in the mail. "Please contact us about your account." You throw it away
Day 61-90: third missed payment. The account is flagged as "seriously delinquent." The bank calls more frequently. You block the number. More letters. You recycle them
Day 91-120: the bank reports the delinquency to all 3 credit bureaus. Your credit score drops 100-150 points. This is the only real consequence so far
Day 121-180: the bank gives up on collecting. They sell your account to a collection agency for 3-7 cents on the dollar. A $50K balance sells for $1,500-$3,500. The bank takes a write-off. Their tax bill goes down. They're done with you. You no longer exist in their system
Day 180+: a collection agency now owns your debt. They paid $2,000 for your $50K balance. They'll take literally any amount above $2,000 as profit. They call you. They send letters. They might threaten legal action
The collection agency's actual options:
They can call you (FDCPA limits calls to reasonable hours, no harassment)
They can mail you (you can send a cease letter under FDCPA 805(c) and they must stop)
They can report to credit bureaus (it's already there from the original creditor)
They can sue you in civil court
If they sue and win, they get a judgment. A judgment lets them:
Garnish wages (usually capped at 25% of disposable income, and they have to go through a court process to set it up)
Levy bank accounts (one-time seizure, but you get notice and can move money)
Lien real property (they can place a lien but can't force a sale of your primary residence in most states due to homestead exemptions)
The timeline from "missed first payment" to "actual wage garnishment": 18-36 months minimum. Involving multiple court hearings, filings, service of process, and legal fees that often exceed the debt itself for balances under $20K
Most collectors never sue because the legal costs ($2,000-$5,000 per lawsuit) eat into the profit on a debt they bought for $2,000
For balances under $10K: almost never sued. The math doesn't work
For balances $10K-$25K: sued maybe 5-8% of the time
For balances over $25K: sued maybe 15-20% of the time
"So you're saying don't pay"
I'm telling you what happens if you don't. The decision is yours. Most people don't pay credit card debt out of moral obligation and fear. The moral obligation is real. The fear is dramatically inflated. The bank has been charging you 24.99% APR with zero fear. They don't feel obligated to charge you a fair rate. The relationship is transactional on both sides
The most important financial concept most americans will never learn:
Secured debt is dangerous. You lose a physical asset
Unsecured debt is a negotiating position. Nobody loses anything except their credit score temporarily
The person who understands this difference takes calculated risks. They deploy $200K in 0% business credit knowing that the worst case scenario is: business fails, credit cards go unpaid, credit score drops for 2-3 years, debt gets sold for pennies, they settle for 5-10 cents on the dollar or wait 7 years for it to fall off, then rebuild
The person who doesn't understand this difference saves for 4 years before starting a business, misses the market window, and tells their kids "it just wasn't the right time"
One person risked a credit score. The other person risked their future. The credit score comes back in 24 months. The future doesn't
the bank's actual enforcement power on unsecured credit card debt is: phone calls, letters, and a credit bureau report. everything else requires a lawsuit they probably won't file, a judgment that takes 2 years to get, and a garnishment that's capped at 25% of disposable income. that's the entire arsenal. $50K in unsecured debt and the scariest thing they can do is hurt your feelings lmfaooo
link in bio and i'll show you how you can qualify for up to 250k in 0% APR funding (if you have a 700+)
How to, UNETHICALLY, get a screaming deal on a new car
Was a car salesman, closer, finance guy, GM and eventual owner of 4 dealerships. I've since sold them all and thought I might share this little hack...
Figure out the best price you can get on the car, look online, ask AI, ask for the invoice... and offer 2k below that price. They will not take it, it would lose money.
But if you tell them. "I need the price low because I want the extended warranty, gap, and tire and wheel" they will.
Why? All those things are ultra high margin items. They will offset the profit by including those. BUT those items are cancelable.
After you make your first payment to the bank, you cancel all the products, and they are removed from your loan.. leaving you with the original, ridiculously low price.
Is it ethical... no. Is it an asshole move... yes. Will anyone care... also no. Will the finance guy hate you... yes.
Scientists at the Library of Congress recently looked under a microscope at Thomas Jefferson’s original draft of the Declaration of Independence.
Using spectral imaging, they found what was originally written underneath: "our fellow subjects."
Jefferson literally scraped that word away and wrote "citizens" right on top of it.
This is the exact moment the American mindset shifted.
A subject is ruled by a government or a king. A subject is subservient.
A citizen is a free individual with inherent rights, answering to no one.
Today I believe our government thinks we are once again subjects. It’s time to rewrite that once again. 🇺🇸
It is not just white people who are fed up. It is all true Americans and true Texans who are tired of this.
I am a Hispanic, third generation Texan. I am proud to be a Christian, an American, a Texan, and a Fort Worthian.
I can promise you that the vast majority of real Americans and Texans are tired of India, tired of Islamic influence, and right now tired of Israel trying to change our way of life and priorities.
We are under attack by foreign interests, and our own government is helping make it happen. Democrats and Republicans are both responsible. They are both the enemy of the American people.
Let me reframe this for you. This is the government questioning the government to see if the government covered up for the government in the Epstein files. Shockingly, the government told the government that the government did nothing wrong.
So Palantir calls for the draft to be reinstated in America and then a month later two AIPAC whores in Congress propose merging our military with Israel's? Are you starting to connect the dots?
Not to get political but...
You're anti-government because the person you don't like is president.
I am anti-government because they'll kill your dog, shoot your 14 year old son in the back, and snipe your wife in the doorway while she's holding your infant child...all over how long the barrel of a shotgun is.
We are not the same.
I support what America is suppose to be.
I will never support corruption and abuse of power.
@she_plugs Financial stability often requires the emotional strength to say no, even when guilt, pressure, or other people’s emergencies try to make you abandon your own future.
So apparently our military vets are receiving letters from the Pentagon warning them that if they speak out against Trump or Israel online they risk losing their benefits.
Bold move to piss off millions of men that you taught to kill with an AR-15 and desensitize to murder under the guise of protecting the Constitution and strip of their own constitutional rights.
