$buck to a buck.
let that sink in.
I think one of the largest issues in my life currently is that I'm simply never bored.
Boredom creates space for doing, a space to develop discipline. It's a vacuum begging to be filled but it's far to easy these days to fill when the world is at my fingertips. I can hop on here and have a conversation with some of the most interesting people in the world, I can open youtube and instantly view the greatest spectacles humanity has seen. I can place a trade and instantly get an adrenaline hit.
When the digital world is so enthralling it becomes far too easy to become complacent in the physical world. The easier it is to pick up your phone and access the entire world's entertainment, the harder it is to pick up a dumbbell or pick up a pen. When it becomes to easy to fill the vacuum of boredom, you've lost the benefit of boredom. It no longer acts as a backstop to your laziness, it no longer gives you a space where you so desperately want something to do, that you get up and do the hard things.
I was at a historic Ford factory in Detroit months ago, standing in Henry Ford's old office as the guide was talking about how he'd work 10, 12, 16 hour days. Sounds impressive at first, and it is, but then I started to think well yeah, this was the most exciting thing in his life. What else was he going to do? Go home to stare at the wall and listen to his wife nag him? Read a book? Go for a bike ride? The factory was his entertainment.
The incentives were aligned for him to put in the work. I don't think the incentives have been aligned for me in favor of doing the hard work lately. I'm fortunate that trading is what I enjoy and I have made that my livelihood, but it's gotten too easy to take the lazy road with it. Too easy to open trades with 1 minute of prep instead of 1 hour.
I think this is what got me with aster. I set aside some cash for it but never actually took action to set up a fresh wallet and bridge over. I thought "I need to remember that launches on the 17th" but never actually set an alarm. Just too many distractions in my mind, too many entertaining things and flashing lights, not enough empty space available to focus on what needed to be done to prepare.
Not enough boredom.
