@ettingermentum "Bernie is irrelevant" is the take of someone who only spends time around internet leftists. All the libs I who were wildly skeptical of him in 2016-2020 have loved him since early last year. If he was a decade younger he'd have 2028 locked up
@PollTracker2024 I've never been a Donald Trump supporter now but he's lowered emissions and turned everyone against Donald Trump, those are two policies I can get behind
@edzitron The whole Tilly Norwood thing seems so forced, there have been so many articles written about it and meanwhile it doesn't seem to be catching on in any meaningful way
@homosovieticus_@PollTracker2024 eg Cleveland was famously fair and incorruptible, Benjamin Harrison had a genuine commitment to civil rights, etc. "Death By Lightning" portrays Garfield's nomination and character as more anomalous than they actually were
@homosovieticus_@PollTracker2024 Most of the Gilded Age presidents were of high moral character but mediocre in office because they didn’t have the political leeway to pursue civil rights, and didn’t understand that the robber barons had to be brought to heel. I doubt he would’ve been different tbh
@homosovieticus_@PollTracker2024 JQA is here but he excluded all the presidents not in the 1948 graphic besides the last three, Clinton and Carter. Garfield + W Harrison were omitted because they served less than a year, Truman because he was currently in office
@PollTracker2024 Incidentally, this rating has a lot of midcentury tics that reveal it as from that era. Wilson, Cleveland and Jackson's stars have fallen in the last 70 years, while Grant's has risen
@PollTracker2024 He just took a graphic from 1948 Life Magazine and updated it (maybe with AI) to include himself, Clinton, and the guys he hates. These aren't really "his" rankings
@LeighWolf@TheyThemItalian This is global, a huge part of what it's measuring is when China/India/Brazil first got access to high-speed internet at all. My suspicion is it's increased to some extent in the US, but certainly not 10x.
@flowersslop Some golf courses, especially in high-density urban areas, should probably be converted into parks or housing. But at least in general they provide some benefit to their communities. They're places you can socialize and exercise.
