Higher Physics pupils enjoyed a live link-up with @CERN today for an hour long talk at their introduction to particle physics and particle accelerators.
Earlier this week our S3 Lab Skills class were doing physics, investigating the force required to pop a party popper. 🎉
A large range of values were found, from 14 N to an impressive 32 N!!
This also gave them a chance to practice finding an average (mean) for the conclusion.
The science faculty all took part in a great CLPL today from the Royal Society of Chemistry with talks on reducing barriers to science, microscale chemistry, and pedagogy.
The physics team also had a talk on frontiers of semiconductor science from the University of Glasgow.
Timelapse flying by Hurricane Milton today about 2 hours ago. Storm looks bigger but less symmetric than yesterday.

It’s been a pleasure meeting the first of our new S1 cohort today as we started our Link Week.
We hope everyone we saw today had fun, and we’re looking forward to seeing all the rest throughout the week.
1E brought in Cell Models today. Some had made cells in minecraft. Some had made them from play dough, & some had made them from cake. After going outside to measure the time for sound to travel 100m, the class enjoyed some of the baked goods. A end to Friday.
Today our physics cohort received a presentation from @NASA.
Dr Peter Schemmel, Deputy Director of @NASASCaN at NASA’s Glenn Research Centre, was talking to our pupils about their current and future space communications, covering radio, optical, & quantum technologies.
Thank you!
We recently had the Lunar Loan Box at @alfordacademy giving our pupils a chance to learn about meteors, meteoroids, meteorites, as well as getting to see and hold lunar and martian rock samples. It definitely has them excited for their upcoming Forces and Space topic.
Our Higher Physics pupils had a lesson from @CERN today about the world leading research in particle physics being undertaken there, and how that helps us understand the composition and evolution of the early universe.
