"Non c'è alcuna possibilità che gli investimenti si fermino finché ricoprirò questa carica. Investiranno 4 miliardi di euro. Sarà la perla del mediterraneo” ha dichiarato il Primo Ministro dell’Albania Edi Rama in merito al progetto di un resort di lusso legato al genero di Trump, Jared Kushner sull’isola di Sazan, all'interno di una laguna protetta.

La società "Zvërnec South Adriatic Development" di Jared Kushner e Ivanka Trump, la figlia del presidente USA, prevede la costruzione di circa 1.000 ville sulla spiaggia, camere d'albergo e un nuovo aeroporto internazionale.

Il progetto ha scatenato proteste di migliaia di cittadini e di organizzazioni ambientaliste che temono che la sola costruzione del resort avrebbe un impatto enorme sul delicato ecosistema.

Parlando a fianco di António Costa, presidente del Consiglio europeo, il primo ministro Edi Rama ha respinto con fermezza le richieste di interrompere il progetto: “Essere accoglienti con gli investitori deve essere il nostro principale sforzo” ha dichiarato Rama.

La procura anticorruzione albanese, SPAK, ha confermato l'apertura di un'indagine relativa al caso.

L'indagine della procura speciale anticorruzione albanese si concentra sulle modifiche che hanno cambiato lo status di tutela e la proprietà dei terreni nell'area costiera di Vjosa-Narta, passaggi che avrebbero reso possibile il progetto del resort di lusso collegato ad Affinity Partners, il fondo di private equity guidato da Jared Kushner.

Gli inquirenti stanno verificando la legittimità delle decisioni amministrative che hanno interessato una delle aree naturalistiche più sensibili del Paese.

Rama ha ribadito che il progetto non rappresenta alcuna minaccia per l'ambiente, sostenendo che le valutazioni ambientali sono ancora in corso e difendendo l'iniziativa come parte della strategia del governo per trasformare l'Albania in una destinazione turistica di riferimento nei Balcani.
