Very saddened to hear of the passing of the generous and large hearted Qamar Ahmad or Q, as we inevitably called him. He helped me a lot on my first tour of England in 1990 where I was a wide-eyed novice on most matters. And I won't forget his emotionally told story of going back to the family village in India, while on tour with Pakistan, where he was warmly received with stories of his father. Always greeted me with a hearty laugh. I have only warm memories of Q and I will be surprised if anyone else has any other. Khuda Hafiz Q Bhai. Salaam.

For years, some people questioned their Pakistaniyat, called them "ghair mulki", said they didn't belong, and dismissed them as good for nothing.
Tonight, those same sons of Pakistan have helped deliver our country's first proper international football tournament title.
If you still look at these players and see "foreigners" instead of Pakistanis, then perhaps the problem was never their identity it was your inability to accept that Pakistan exists far beyond its borders.
These players chose Pakistan. They wore the shirt with pride. They fought for the flag. And today, they made history.
Pakistan is not limited to a piece of land. Pakistan lives wherever a Pakistani heart beats.

BREAKING: Pakistan’s football team has won the 2026 Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament in the Maldives, defeating Afghanistan in the final.
This marks Pakistan’s first official international football tournament title. Previously, the team were joint winners of the 1952 Ceylon Cup alongside India. The senior side also secured gold at the 1991 South Asian Games; however, that was a multi-sport event rather than a standalone football competition.
