Everyone is looking for a shortcut these days.

A shortcut to get rich.
A shortcut to lose weight.
A shortcut to learn an instrument.
A shortcut to build an app.

I’m telling you: there is NO shortcut.

You can’t build a great body after a week at the gym. You can’t play an instrument after watching a few YouTube videos.

Building software is no different. It requires many different skills. And you can’t develop those skills overnight or by learning bits and pieces while talking to AI. You won’t have a clear mental map of how things fit together or when to use what.

AI gives rookies the impression that they can build an app in a day and make thousands of dollars every month.

And yes, that may actually happen for a few lucky ones. But it doesn’t apply to the other 99.9%.

If you’re one of the lucky ones, remember: you’re not always going to stay lucky. Sooner or later, someone will come along and build a better version of what you built. Better UX. Better architecture. Fewer bugs. Faster execution. That’s when competition starts eating your lunch.

We’ve seen this before. Yahoo was once a giant in search. Then Google came along with a better search engine and eventually took over the market. Then ChatGPT came along and changed how we search for information, disrupting Google and countless businesses that depended on its traffic.

That’s what happens when strong engineering, great UX, and a better solution to a real problem come together.

That’s why fundamentals still matter, even if AI eventually writes every line of code for us.

Learn a programming language. Build small projects. Build front ends and back ends. Learn SQL and data modeling. Design a few databases. Learn about code organization, complexity, APIs, testing, security, and UX.

Not because you need to memorize syntax.

Because that’s how you develop engineering judgment. You start with small problems and, over time, develop the mental models you need to solve bigger ones.

Then you can let AI handle more of the implementation while you focus on higher-level problems and decisions.

Remember, when you don’t know what you’re doing and you’re just prompting, everything AI generates can look perfect. To an inexperienced developer, it all looks right. AI is incredibly good at convincing you that its solution is solid.

If you don’t know enough to challenge it, you’ll accept the first answer and move on. But with a solid foundation, you can see the cracks and challenge AI. That’s when it starts to say:

“You’re absolutely right. That’s a better design than what I built.”

“You’re right on both counts. I didn’t consider that scenario.”

Building that foundation takes time. You can’t build it overnight by watching a YouTube video or even taking a single course. You need to spend several months taking courses, reading books, and, more importantly, building things yourself without AI’s help so you can learn to identify problems and solve them yourself.

Once you’re equipped with that knowledge and start using AI, you’ll act more like a tech lead. You won’t manually type every line of code. You’ll give AI the right instructions, review what it does, challenge its decisions, and guide it in the right direction.

My father has been under arrest for 845 days. For the past six weeks, he has been kept in solitary confinement in a death cell with zero transparency. His sisters have been denied every visit, even with clear court orders allowing access. There have been no phone calls, no meetings and no proof of life. Me and my brother have had no contact with our father.

This absolute blackout is not a security protocol. It is a deliberate attempt to hide his condition and prevent our family from knowing whether he is safe.

Let it be clear: the Pakistani government and its handlers will be held fully accountable legally, morally and internationally for my father’s safety and for every consequence of this inhumane isolation.

I call on the international community, global human rights organisations and every democratic voice to intervene urgently. Demand proof of life, enforce court ordered access, end this inhumane isolation and call for the release of Pakistan’s most popular political leader who is being held solely for political reasons.

میرے والد کو گرفتار ہوئے 845 دن ہو چکے ہیں۔ پچھلے چھ ہفتوں سے انہیں مکمل بے خبری کے ماحول میں ڈیتھ سیل میں تنہا رکھا گیا ہے۔ ان کی بہنوں کو ہر ملاقات سے روک دیا گیا ہے حالانکہ عدالت کے واضح احکامات موجود ہیں۔ کوئی فون کال نہیں، کوئی ملاقات نہیں اور زندگی کی کوئی خبر نہیں۔ میں اور میرا بھائی اپنے والد سے کسی قسم کا رابطہ نہیں کر سکے۔

یہ مکمل اندھیرا کسی حفاظتی پروٹوکول کا حصہ نہیں۔ یہ ایک جان بوجھ کر کی گئی کوشش ہے تاکہ ان کی حالت کو چھپایا جائے اور ہمارے خاندان کو یہ نہ معلوم ہو سکے کہ وہ محفوظ ہیں یا نہیں۔

واضح رہے کہ پاکستانی حکومت اور اس کے آقاؤں کو میرے والد کی حفاظت اور اس غیر انسانی تنہائی کے ہر نتیجے کی قانونی، اخلاقی اور بین الاقوامی سطح پر مکمل ذمہ داری اٹھانا ہوگی۔

میں عالمی برادری، بین الاقوامی انسانی حقوق کی تنظیموں اور ہر جمہوری آواز سے اپیل کرتا ہوں کہ فوری مداخلت کریں۔ زندگی کی تصدیق کا مطالبہ کریں، عدالت کے احکامات کے مطابق رسائی یقینی بنائیں، اس غیر انسانی تنہائی کو ختم کریں اور پاکستان کے سب سے مقبول سیاسی رہنما کی رہائی کا مطالبہ کریں جنہیں صرف سیاسی وجوہات کی بنا پر قید رکھا گیا ہے۔
