The UK breeding population of Pintail is down 14% to 25 pairs and the wintering numbers down by 46% in the last 10 years (State of the UK’s Birds 2017) so do this lot have a problem with the dictionary definition or the concept of ‘sustainability’ ?

Happy news ! @ORCA_web confirmed four True’s beaked whales were spotted in the Bay of Biscay on 4th July. The last recorded sighting of these elusive creatures was in 2001. There has only been a handful of sightings ever worldwide .

Today at @GronantTerns we caught a Little Tern that I had #ringed as a chick there on 8 July 1993. At almost 25 years, this appears to be the oldest Little Tern ever recorded anywhere. Not too old, though: its chicks hatched this afternoon! #longevity#ornithology@_BTO@_EURING
