🌍 Partnership Opportunity: Building Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods 🌱
Dear colleagues and partners,
I am reaching out on behalf of alignAfrica, a community-based nonprofit organization committed to delivering transformative, locally led programs that address poverty, climate resilience, and peacebuilding. For over 15 years, our work has focused on empowering vulnerable communities through education, livelihood recovery, and social cohesion.
We are seeking strategic partnerships to implement an Integrated Recovery and Resilience Building Program targeting conflict-affected and climate-vulnerable regions. This initiative will address underfunded crises where displacement, loss of livelihoods, and climate impacts threaten community stability and futures.
Through a Triple Nexus approach combining humanitarian relief, climate-smart livelihood recovery, and peacebuilding, we aim to restore dignity, rebuild sustainable livelihoods, and strengthen trust within communities. This vision aligns with global priorities for addressing poverty and climate change together.
We believe that partnerships are the key to sustainable impact and would welcome collaboration with like-minded organizations, foundations, and networks who share this vision.

We appreciate the strong stance by @Keir_Starmer and @EmmanuelMacron on protecting children from harmful digital exposure. The future must be both safe and empowering for young people—online and offline. #Safeguarding#YouthFirst

We are banning social media access for under 16s.
These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life.
I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back.

In Ethiopia’s pastoralist and border regions, adolescent girls face overlapping challenges:
🔸 Harmful gender norms limiting rights and choices
🔸 Weak systems with limited legal, health, and psychosocial services
🔸 Barriers to education driving early and forced marriage
🔸 Cross-border mobility disrupting protection and accountability
🔸 Drought and conflict increasing vulnerability
These challenges demand coordinated, community-driven, and cross-border solutions.
At alignAfrica, we work to strengthen systems, center local leadership, and advance gender equality.

Outbreaks are becoming more frequent and more severe, making sustained investment, cross-border collaboration, and proactive preparedness more critical than ever. The time to act is now, not after the next crisis hits.
Appreciation to @Pandemic_Fund and @TheGPMB for sounding the alarm and driving global action.
As disease outbreaks become more frequent and more damaging, sustained financing and strong political commitment are essential. The @TheGPMB report calls for standing commitments to the @Pandemic_Fund, predictable domestic financing, and stronger cross-border and regional preparedness, among other priorities.
In a world on the edge, preparedness is a shared responsibility. Read the report: https://t.co/QiWg9lCF8a

Why the 9 CHS Commitments Matter… ???
The 9 Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) commitments are important because they define what quality, accountable, and people-centered assistance should look like in any humanitarian or development context. They help ensure that support is not only delivered—but delivered in the right way.
1. Strengthening Resilience and Preparedness
This matters because communities should be able to cope with future shocks. Building resilience reduces long-term dependency and supports recovery with dignity.
2. Timely and Effective Support
Assistance must arrive when it is needed most. Timely and appropriate support can prevent further harm and save lives.
3. Supporting Sustainable Recovery
Effective support goes beyond short-term relief. It should strengthen local systems and capacities so communities can recover and move forward independently.
4. Coordinated and Complementary Action
No single organization can address all needs. Coordination ensures better coverage, avoids duplication, and maximizes the impact of limited resources.
5. Safe Feedback and Complaints Mechanisms
People affected by crises have the right to be heard. Safe and accessible channels allow them to raise concerns, report abuse, and influence the support they receive.
6. Participation and Continuous Improvement
When people are involved in decisions, programs become more relevant and effective. Continuous feedback helps organizations learn and improve over time.
7. Do No Harm and Environmental Responsibility
Even well-intended interventions can cause harm if not carefully managed. This commitment ensures that assistance protects people, respects communities, and minimizes environmental impact.
8. Respectful and Competent Staff
The behavior and capacity of staff directly affect the quality of support. Professional, respectful, and well-trained staff build trust and deliver better outcomes.
9. Ethical and Responsible Resource Management
Resources must be used transparently and responsibly. This ensures accountability to both affected communities and donors, and helps maximize impact.
Overall Importance
Together, these commitments ensure that humanitarian and development efforts are effective, ethical, and accountable. They place people at the center, protect their dignity, and ensure that support leads to meaningful and lasting change.
When young women lead, communities move forward.
In Assosa City, Benishangul-Gumuz, female students from Woreda One and Woreda Two marked International Women’s Day by organizing a women’s football tournament—demonstrating that sports can be a powerful platform for leadership, confidence, and opportunity for girls and young women.
During the event, Ms. Alemnesh Yibas, Head of the Regional Women and Social Affairs Bureau, emphasized that no country can achieve sustainable growth and prosperity without the full participation of women. She called for stronger collaboration to create enabling environments where women and girls can realize their full potential across all sectors.
Ms. Ondanesh Mamo, Deputy Head of the Youth Sector, highlighted that this year’s celebration—observed globally for the 115th time and in Ethiopia for the 50th time—is taking place under the theme:
“Women’s Voice for Equality and a Prosperous Ethiopia.”
The young players expressed their determination to advance women’s football and leadership in the region, emphasizing that with the right support and investment, women and girls can drive transformative change in their communities.
The final match saw Woreda One Women’s Football Team defeat Woreda Two, taking home the trophy—but the true victory is the growing confidence, visibility, and leadership of young women.
At alignAfrica, we believe investing in women and girls is one of the most powerful strategies for building inclusive, resilient, and prosperous communities across Africa.
🌍 When women thrive, societies thrive.

Strengthening Health Systems Through Community Engagement
In our Health Supply Chain Strengthening Project, community commodity monitors (CCMs), alongside our advocacy and community mobilization officer Mesfin Mekasha, conducted a verification visit at Kiros Sub-City, assessing the availability, accessibility, and quality of essential health products.
Lesson learned: Engaging communities is a game-changer for health systems. When community members participate in monitoring:
• Gaps in supply and service delivery are identified early
• Accountability is strengthened, ensuring medicines reach the right people
• Quality of services improves, as feedback drives corrective action
• Donor investments are maximized, creating measurable impact
• Trust and collaboration grow between health facilities and the communities they serve
Through Mesfin’s leadership and the active participation of CCMs, this approach ensures supply chains are efficient, transparent, and responsive, while empowering citizens to contribute to stronger, more resilient health systems.
Community Commodity Monitoring (CCM) is a backbone of sustainable health systems. By involving communities in tracking health commodities and service quality, CCMs help make health services more accountable, responsive, and people-centered.
This initiative is part of the USG-funded Supply Chain Strengthening (SCS) Activity, implemented by @MSH with @alignWithAfrica as a sub-contractor, contributing to stronger and more accountable health systems.
