A hill I am willing to die on is that ART IS AN ACADEMIC SUBJECT. I had an ELA teacher today call art a "non-academic" class. So here is a thread in case you are wondering why my class (and all classes) are academic.
This right here is my friend! I am so proud of him and so lucky to be his friend. The kindness with which he approaches our world is like none other. #belikekelsey
This is my 31 autistic son Kelsey. He’s kinder than any republican. He works every day. Pays taxes. Spends hours a day learning. Helps others. And is way smarter than RFK will ever be.
@HeatherL114 I have some of their issues downloaded for free and would be happy to email the issues I downloaded! I just didnt finish downloading them.
@Cnsdr_Th_Fllwng@VictoriaTheTech@JayWamsted I live right next to Lummi Nation which is a nation right here and now. Im not arguing anymore and you don't get to twist my words. My point stands that colonialism DOES EXIST in the classroom in but not every interaction. No need to respond. :)
@Cnsdr_Th_Fllwng@VictoriaTheTech@JayWamsted For some people the "creation of this country" wasn't in 1776...because they already had nations, that were already created...And that changed depending on when treaties were established through cononial rule. This could also be another example of colonizalism in the classroom.
@Cnsdr_Th_Fllwng@VictoriaTheTech@JayWamsted I think there are a lot of effects! An indigenous student learning mostly white history and "the creation of this country" when their family lived here since time immemorial in ss class. That is a direct impact...but not everything is colonization and we gotta distinguish that!
@heymrsbond I was forced to share a classroom with another teacher...and the PTA. With no consent. And teachers used a work space of mine for meetings!
Looking for Native artists, poets, photographers and/or creatives for a project I’m working on with the city. Specifically people who have a perspective they’d like to express about Land Back. It’s PAID. Please send recs my way or reach out if that’s you! You must live in WA. ❤️
@MrZachG I agree. But also let's recognize the benefit that project based learbing can have when done well. Also learning how to use scissors well is a life skill! Art skills are life skills.
@CheloArreola@PresidentPat There are social issues in *every subject area* so ALL teachers should be teaching about social issues as relevant to their content area. Math and science also have social constructs within them. Just because it is math and science does not make it all "FACT"
Over the hours, the New York Times subtly changes its headline multiple times to absolve Israel of any blame.
We are watching in real time how consent gets manufactured.
are women ever going to admit that thongs are the most sensory nightmare piece of clothing that has ever existed or are they still going to look at me in my eyeballs and say “i actually find them more comfortable.”
