@ashtonforbes the transponder going off, then other systems were probably severely damaged as well, and the chances of the pilots having been able to communicate with a US Navy ship would be extremely slim. Chances are they would’ve been overcome by the fire at that point.

@ashtonforbes As stated by somebody else, it’s actually smoke detectors. They would’ve gone off long before the fire actually did damage and the pilots would’ve declared an emergency and attempted to land ASAP.
