Contempt for knowledge & expertise is deeply ingrained in Pakistan’s governance. This is one of a major reasons why the country is in such a big mess, especially as complexity of systems/problems have increased far beyond what they were in the 1950s/60s.

Many civil servants have taken up a performative walkabout style of management. But this only works when the person on walkabout has decent knowledge of a subject, respect for others, & a sense of responsibility.

And so many of them lack self-awareness that their attempts at self-promotion come across as pure cringe.

Kasim Khan speaks about rising intolerance and political persecution in Pakistan (among other concerns, some of which are factually inaccurate) and calls on the Council to urge Pakistan to end the persecution and release political prisoners. GSP+ isn’t mentioned
