CA limits what you can name your baby. Ex: Accent marks aren’t allowed on birth certificates 🚫. Want to name your baby José? You’ll have to settle for Jose.

There’s no justification for stripping residents of their correct names & cultural heritage. AB 2156 aims to fix this.

Even Texas allows for accents, tildes, etc., on vital records. CA, the most diverse & populous state, does not. “Beyoncé” wouldn’t even be recorded accurately! It’s time to pass the #IdentityIntegrityAct & record the actual names of residents.

AB 2156, the #IdentityIntegrityAct, just sailed out of committee! There is no reason for CA to prohibit diacritical marks (accents, tildes, etc.) on state records such as birth certificates & marriage licenses. If Beyoncé had been born in CA, even she'd be denied! #PonleAcento

Today I introduced SB 835 in honor of my late Chief, Marc Hanson. The bill will allow family members of a #CALeg employee who dies to remain on the legislature’s health plan for 120 days.

Most state workers enjoy a grace period to process grief and prevent a lapse in coverage.
