We often expect disinformation on social media by nameless accounts. But this time, the lies had logos, jingles, and slick graphics. They were delivered by men and women in suits, sitting in million-dollar studios, waving papers in the air, and shouting over each other. News had become theatre. The audience, caught in the panic and patriotism of the moment, bought every word.

Information Minister @TararAttaullah said on Monday that the government is reviewing austerity measures previously introduced to conserve fuel and reduce the financial impact of rising energy costs.

The federal government has finalised arrangements to roll out the Prime Minister’s #FuelReliefScheme across Pakistan at midnight between Wednesday and Thursday, offering targeted fuel subsidies to eligible vehicle owners.
