Two Muslim men pulled an elderly couple and their grandson from a burning house in Leeds last Friday.

Everyone got out. The house can be replaced. The family is alive.

Every outlet that covered it called them heroes.

They deserved every word.

But not one headline told you they were Muslim men.

We have seen this before.

Two weeks ago, a teacher was stabbed in the neck protecting his pupils from a knife in his Manchester classroom.

Maysum Abdullah. 27. Science teacher.

LBC named him a hero. So did the Independent, the Manchester Evening News, the Mirror, the Sun.

He ran towards the blade.

A hero in every paper. A Muslim man in none of them.

This is the pattern.

When a Muslim name appears in a crime, the faith leads the headline.

When a Muslim name appears in a rescue, it vanishes from the page.

Now look at who that erasure clears the path for.

Bradford, the same district these men come from, is now led by Reform as its largest party.

One of their candidates, Daniel Devaney, topped the poll in his ward after writing on Facebook that Muslims were "pure scum" and that he wanted to "blast [them] off the face of the earth."

He was not deselected. He was not suspended. He was elected.

They are loud about our religion when they want to call it a threat.

They are silent when that same religion sends two young men running into a fire.

The book they want to criticise is the same book that commands us to save a life.

Qayyum and Iqbal lived that verse on a Friday in Leeds.

Abdullah lived it in a Manchester classroom.

And the headlines recorded the act, but erased the faith that drove it.

When we are the suspect, our religion is the whole story.

When we are the rescuer, it is not worth a line.

Their names are Maysum Abdullah, Mohsin Qayyum, and Mohammed Yusuf Iqbal.

Muslim men.

Claire Kerrison was arrested at 4:33am from her Brighton home for sending emails concerning 'israel's' genocide in Gaza to her MP Peter Kyle.

Four police officer raided her home on 17 June 2025. They seized her electronics. Held her for over eight hours with no one knowing where she was. Released her on strict bail. Charged her in late 2025 under the Communications Act.

The case dragged on for a full year. She faced multiple court hearings including not-guilty pleas.

The emails were described by those who read them as articulate and non-abusive— simply expressing horror at events in Gaza.

The man who triggered the police complaint? Her own constituency MP, Peter Kyle:

- Britain's trade minister responsible for arms exports to 'israel'.
- Long standing member and previous vice-chair of Labour Friends of 'israel'

Kyle has been accused of breaching the Ministerial Code by failing to declare his LFI membership in the official List of Ministerial Interests for 18 months despite the clear conflict.

The case was finally dismissed yesterday, with costs awarded to Claire Kerrison.

British spies have tried to recruit Riz Ahmed three times, with a senior BBC figure involved in one of the attempts, the actor has said.

“One was when I came back from my first film, The Road to Guantánamo, we landed at Luton airport, celebrating,” he added.

“I was like, ‘this is hilarious,’ and then when I finished that, they were like, ‘okay, would you like to keep an eye out for us? ‘Cause it was really great the way you were answering those questions.’ No, thank you.”

Ahmed won an Oscar for his short film The Long Goodbye and is also known for his roles in Four Lions, a dark satire about British jihadists, and The Night Of, which follows a young man's journey through the US criminal justice system.

He told Hasan that the second attempt to recruit him involved a family friend. “And the third time was someone senior, high up at the BBC,” he said, without naming the figure but adding that they had “just left” the organisation.

Asked by Hasan how people could be certain he had not accepted any of the offers, Ahmed joked that it would make a “sick biopic if I was actually a fed”.
