#HRtogether
This week at Brooks Life Sciences we hosted a global Town Hall call using Live Event feature on MS Teams for the first time. Took some getting used to, but it really is
a fab tool when you want to connect with hundreds of employees 'live'.
@HMRCcustomers How would my employer decide if I should pay tax on the 45p? Or do you mean they would decide if tax has to be paid on the car allowance and the additional fuel allowance which is separate to the 45p.
@HMRCcustomers My company pays me a car allowance monthly and a fuel allowance monthly. Both are paid through the payroll and subject to tax and NI. The company have told me I can claim my business miles at 45p per mile. Is this correct? Should the rate be less?
@HMRCcustomers so it ok to assume that the 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles will be tax free even though I also receive about £7K per year in car allowance which is taxed as normal salary?
@HMRCcustomers I am confused. In last job I claimed 45p per mile from my employer because I did not have a car allowance, tax free unless I claimed more than 10,000 miles. My new employer says the same rule applies that I can claim 45p tax free for first 10,000 as well as being paid allowance
