I’ve been a car lover since day 1. I definitely got that trait from my Dad, who literally started driving at just 13 years old! Knowing that made me desperate to get behind the wheel as early as possible.
Fast forward to when I was 17. In my head, I was already running late compared to his record. 😅 But there was a catch: my Dad has a strict rule. You can only drive his car after you’ve already learned how to drive. No practicing with his ride. Period.
Or so I thought.
One sunny afternoon, we were coming back from an outing. The moment we hit our neighborhood, he suddenly parked, got out, walked over to the front passenger side, opened the door, and looked at me.
"Go and drive."
Omo, I first thought it was a prank. Abi hin dey whine me ni? 😭 But he was dead serious. I climbed into the driver's seat, heart pounding.
Before I could even adjust, he gave me the quickest, most chaotic driving lesson in history. He pointed and said: "This is the brake. This is the accelerator, and road, and that is the bush."
Bro, what kind of information is that?! 💀
I started the car, shifted the gear, and suddenly the car started moving on its own. I hadn’t even touched the gas! I panicked and told him, but he just calmly said, "That’s how it is."
The rest of the drive home was pure chaos. He shouted at me multiple times. At one point, I couldn't take it anymore and said, "Dad, this is literally my first time!"
You know what he said?
"You’ve always been in the backseat sleeping. Why couldn't you learn by watching? You’re just tall for nothing." 😭 I was just like... hmmm, okay o. Shebi na me wan learn drive. I will make you proud one day.
Looking back, that tough love was exactly what I needed. Now, I navigate these roads like a pro.
Drivers in the house, let’s settle this:
How did you learn how to drive? Was your first experience a smooth ride or a chaotic ghetto lesson like mine? 👇

I just imagine when some people use other people's full names on social media
My dear, are you fine?
What happened to your name?
Do you think you can't be big too?
You aren't proud of it?
Bros, change the name to your name and sit your butt down and build it.
Story time!!!
2019 was the beginning of my university admission journey.
I've always been an OAU fan. 😂 Back in JSS3/SS1, someone told me OAU had plans to build an airport inside the school, and I believed it with my full chest. 😭
At some point, I even liked UNILORIN because I heard they gave students reading pads. Those were the kind of things influencing my school choices back then. 😅
I wrote my first UTME and chose OAU (Civil Engineering).
Result? Dem shenk me. 💔😂
Fast forward to my second UTME... Alhamdulillah, I finally gained admission into OAU.
Then came the plot twist.
I got the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to Bangladesh. After several tests and interviews, I was awarded the scholarship.
Now the real question was:
OAU, my dream school... or a fully funded scholarship and a chance to leave Nigeria? 😫
I couldn't decide, so I handed the decision over to my parents.
Typical Yoruba parents. 😂 They organized a conference call with friends living abroad.
The verdict?
"Go to OAU."
Their main reason was that I might face racism in Bangladesh. 🇧🇩
Part of me was relieved.
Another part of me was wondering what could have been.
I accepted the decision, came to OAU...
Five years later...
I still never see anything. 😭😂
If you were in my shoes, what would you have chosen: OAU or the Bangladesh scholarship? 👀
