Federal Government Confirms Strong Investor Interest in Zamfara’s Solid Minerals Sector

The Federal Government has confirmed growing interest from both local and foreign investors in the vast solid mineral resources of Zamfara State, signaling a major push to harness the state’s untapped mining potential for economic growth.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to Governor Dauda Lawal in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

In 2011, I bought a house in Sabon Kawo, but there was a small problem. The tenant inside has three wives and 19 children all living inside. To claim the house will take sometime. The seller who was a district head told me to just eject the tenant, that he has been living free in the house since 1980s. Abdullahi Kakangi who was friend helped to broker the deal.

I reasoned well, that there must be a human angle to solve the problem, especially when I saw the man, nicknamed Samanja (because of his heavy mustache).He was a huge man but full of respect when I met him. I felt very sorry for him. I did not intend to live in the house. I only wanted to demolish it, build a standard house and sell for profit. I bought the house at N2. 5m.

I asked Samaja how much was rent so that I could just give him money to go and get a house to move with his family. He was very happy and told me N100, 000 will get him a good home for the family. I simply calculated 300k and added to the cost of the house, bringing the total cost to N2. 8m. Some how, I prayed Allah will make me recover the investment. I later sold the house for N8. 5m.

I went and brought N300, 000 and gave Samanja. He was only expecting N100,000. He simply sat down and wept and promised me to move within a week. He was a tipper driver and asked me if he could demolish the building for me. I was happy and told him he could take everything, both the roof, the woods and just leave empty land for me.

What Samaja did surprised me. He moved his wives and children to their villages, demolished the house and sold the rubbles, zinc and wood and made more money. He then bought a land in Barakallah and within three months, he built his own house. He later picked me and showed me the house.

Today Samanja is the one supplying me gravels on credit and he will never worry me about payment. He told me to pay anytime, that I was the reason he owned a house in Kaduna.

TRANSPORTATION: GOV. LAWAL DISTRIBUTES 50 BUSES TO ZAMFARA NURTW

Governor Dauda Lawal has provided 50 new buses to the Zamfara State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The buses were officially handed over to recipients on Wednesday at the Government House in Gusau.

A statement by the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed that the Zamfara State Government provided the 50 buses to the NURTW as a loan under the Zamfara State Loan Scheme.

The statement added that part of the critical assets distributed includes five fire trucks procured to support effective firefighting.

In his remarks, Governor Lawal reiterated that the loan scheme is part of his administration's efforts to improve the public transportation system, promote economic empowerment, and enhance the safety and efficiency of transportation for our people.

He said, “The buses would be distributed to the NURTW on loan, under the Zamfara State Loan Scheme. The Union has agreed to participate in the identification, supervision, and repayment of its members' vehicles.

“Under this scheme, the vehicles were procured at the cost of N27,390,000.00 only. However, the Government will provide a 20% subsidy on the total cost of each vehicle.

“This represents the sum of N5,478,000.00 per vehicle. Therefore, each beneficiary will pay N21,912,000.00 per vehicle within 44 months of vehicle allocation.

“We are also commissioning 5 units of fire trucks procured for an effective firefighting mechanism.

“We are aware that fire outbreaks can destroy homes, shops, and livelihoods in seconds. These new fire trucks, equipped with modern standards, will strengthen the state fire service's capacity to respond faster across all nooks and crannies of the State.

“I, therefore, charge the Fire Service to complement these efforts by ensuring adequate training of its personnel, conducting public fire-safety sensitisations, and always keeping the equipment in serviceable condition.”

The Governor further emphasised that the assets distributed belong to the people of Zamfara State.

“I direct all MDAs and beneficiaries to submit quarterly maintenance and utilisation reports to their respective reporting Offices. I want to emphasise that vandalism, misuse, or diversion will not be tolerated.”
