This is not the same Britain I grew up in.

I’ve just returned from a lightning visit to London and Manchester, and what I saw was a Jewish community grappling with the cost of going into hiding.

Because right now the antizionist hate movement feels emboldened to purge Jews from public life. Simple as that.

I heard of a Jewish-owned coffee shop whose suppliers were bombarded with demands to “stop supplying Zionists.” A Jewish doctor who took her name off her office door. A Jewish lawyer whose firm refused to post condolences after the Manchester synagogue attack “because people will be upset we didn’t say anything about Gaza.” A Jewish school telling students to remove their blazers on public transport. A Jewish student too scared to join her own Jewish society. A Jewish teacher hiding her identity because she has no idea what parents are telling their kids at home. A Jewish charity worker who’d rather say he’s unemployed. A young professional told not to mention she was visiting Israel or her leave wouldn’t be approved.

All this from a couple of hours of small talk.

There is a real, palpable fear that Britain is turning on the Jews.

Part of the shift stems from the rapid growth of the UK's Muslim population. British Jews are now outnumbered 16:1. Some British cities are now more heavily Muslim than Israel’s “mixed” cities—Acre, Lod, Ramle, Haifa, even Jerusalem. I spoke to people who devoted their lives to interfaith work who now believe there is no point continuing. Moderate, reasonable British Muslims exist—but they are scared of angering extremists by “normalizing Zionists.”

Hostility to Jews who refuse to denounce Israel has become “part of the Zeitgeist.” And this hate movement is accelerating because decent British people don’t want to fight it. They don’t recognize it. They don’t understand it. They like rooting for the underdog, so they’ve framed Israelis as bullies. And they keep their heads down because they don’t want to cause a fuss.

But silence is how a purge succeeds.

Noa Marciano’s father says a Gazan doctor murdered his daughter inside Shifa Hospital

For the first time, the father of 19 year old IDF soldier Noa Marciano is speaking publicly about how she died in Gaza. He says a medical professional at Shifa injected air into her veins and killed her.

He learned this from a video sent to him on Telegram. In it, Noa is begging for her life and pleading for the bombings to stop because she feared Israelis in captivity would be hurt. Near the end she is sweating and unresponsive.

Noa had been wounded in the leg while being moved deeper into Gaza but the injury was not considered life threatening. She was taken to Shifa Hospital, where the killing took place.

Her body was later recovered near the hospital after an IDF operation.

Her father says he still wakes up many mornings with the video replaying in his mind. Noa was his eldest daughter.

Remember this the next time you see someone accusing Israel of killing "medical staff."
