As we start thinking about syllabi again, please consider integrating UDL practices into your classes this term. Here is my thread from last fall. Also, I have a prepped talk about this if you want me to chat with your instructors or DM me about practical strategies.
I got an email today from the disability services office @Macalester about the accessibility of my course design. It was validating tbh, but also made me think about how instructors are often anxious about implementing universal design. So, here is my pitch for it: 1/12

@JessicaCalarco My son too. This summer he was not interested in being upfront, was afraid of getting kicked in the shins while on offense but playing goal he would throw his body on the ball, unafraid of being kicked literally anywhere else on his body. 🤷🏻♀️
Shark Week is a good time to remind you that the mayor from Jaws is still the Mayor in Jaws 2. This is why it is so important to vote in your local elections.
@JessicaCalarco Working on that study with you taught me more about modern motherhood in a heterosexual partnership than most anything else I have done. This all seems so spot on even based on the fraction I saw.
@T_RochaBeardall @AnnaRHaskins @victorerikray @AlexesHarris @reubenjmiller @LCProf2 So deserved, so amazing to see such relentless hard work pay off. 💜
Big day for the LSAT: the ABA House of Delegates votes today on whether to make law school admissions test optional. Based on the 15-1 vote last time in the council, we expect the measure will pass, and then in 2025 law schools will be free to require a test, or not.
@ProfMassoud They truly loved your book. It was very fun to discuss it with them. Yours and Mary Gallagher’s on authoritarian legality in China fostered a lot of rich in-class discussion. Thank you for your work!
In my higher level classes I sometimes do what I call the “Ariana Grande Challenge” where we pass around the syllabus and they mark which readings taught love, patience, and pain. (❤️, ✅, X, respectively) it’s silly but it leads to a great reflection and discussion.
A high point today and of the semester was to have a visit from @MacalesterPres and @Macalester Provost visit my course on higher Ed to hear student presentations about how we can make Mac a more equitable place. The students killed it! #HeyMac
Saw @anthonyocampo’s latest book in the wild today at St. Paul’s newest bookstore, @blkgarnetbooks. So exciting! It was my first visit and I can’t wait to go back!
