Tonight here in Bucha, we are holding a night of remembrance.
561 civilians were killed here over 33 days of fighting and Russian occupation. Across the entire territorial community surrounding the city, more than 1,000 people died during that time.
Hundreds were shot by Russian soldiers, and the bodies of many lay in the streets and against walls for weeks, until Russia's defeat and the return of Ukrainian forces to the city, along with the global media.
And the name of this comfortable, prosperous suburb of Kyiv among the woods became a shocking symbol of atrocity and inhumanity, images that went around the world.
This is the church in the center of Bucha, next to which a mass grave of 67 bodies was found. During the occupation, people buried their dead as best they could -- like this, in a pit beside a church.
Every day I can see that church from my home in the distance, and every time, I remember how we were present at the terrible exhumation of that enormous grave. That's something I would want to forget forever.
A memorial complex now stands on that spot.

Croatia suspended all Russian oil supplies from its main terminal port at Adriatic coast in Krk to Hungary.
Croatian Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar says that he is willing to allow oil supplies to Hungary, if it originates from countries other than Russia.
I want to thank everyone for all the support we’re receiving. There really is an incredible amount of it.
For me, the sacrifice of the people depicted on the helmet means more than any medal ever could - because they gave the most precious thing they had.
And simple respect toward them is exactly what I want to give.
My coworker is 67. He drags himself into the office every day, pale and exhausted.
He has Stage 3 cancer.
He wants to retire. He needs to rest.
But he can't.
If he retires, he loses the company’s "Gold Tier" health insurance, and Medicare won't cover the experimental treatment that is actually shrinking his tumor.
He is literally working to stay alive.
He naps in his car during lunch just to get through the afternoon.
Productivity shouldn't be the price of survival.
🇨🇦 Canada saved thousands of American troops by taking over frontline operations in Kandahar during the Afghanistan War.
In early 2006, as the United States faced severe troop strain from its escalating commitments in Iraq, Canada dramatically stepped up to assume primary responsibility for one of the most dangerous and Taliban-infested regions in Afghanistan: Kandahar Province. Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel, under Operation Athena (Canada's main combat mission in Afghanistan), deployed in force—peaking at nearly 3,000 troops at any given time—and took command of Regional Command South (later Task Force Kandahar), a multinational brigade that included U.S., British, Dutch, and other allied units.
This bold move directly relieved U.S. forces who had previously been operating in Kandahar. Many American units were able to redeploy to Iraq or elsewhere without leaving a critical security vacuum in southern Afghanistan, where the insurgency was intensifying. By filling this gap during a period when U.S. troop levels in Afghanistan were relatively low (prior to the later surges), Canada effectively preserved American military manpower and resources—allowing the U.S. to maintain pressure on multiple fronts without overstretching even further.
From 2006 to 2011, Canadian troops held the frontline and bore the brunt of some of the fiercest fighting NATO had seen since the Korean War.
More than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces members served during Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. 158 never came home, and many others returned carrying physical and psychological wounds that continue long after service ends.
Today, and everyday, we Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we honour the courage of all who served, and we stand with the Veterans and families who live every day with the lasting impacts of that mission.
As an organization committed to supporting Veterans of all eras, our focus remains on Remembrance, respect, and support — for the fallen, for those who served and returned, and for their loved ones.

Here are the names of the 158 Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives in Afghanistan following the invocation of Article 5 of the NATO Charter by the United States after the September 11 attacks.
Mark Carney just delivered Canada's version of Churchill's "we shall never surrender"
I'm so fuckin proud I helped elect this man. I knew he'd be a competent leader, but he's exceeded every expectation
He's the bulwark against the rising tide of fascism. Canada is ready! 🇨🇦
For anyone who would like to hear Mark Carney’s outstanding Davos speech in full here it is. This is what true global leadership looks like.
Canada should be immensely proud today, because they are leading the fight back when others dare not.

A church in Minnesota reportedly has a ICE agent as a pastor.
Churches are supposed to be safe havens and if this pastor is a AGENT, he is definitely reporting people.
Merz says that Germany’s decision to shut down all its nuclear power plants was a huge mistake and very costly for the German economy.
Everybody told them 10 years ago but the Germans refused to listen.

Zelenskyy fires back at India, UAE & others who condemned Ukraine over a FAKE drone attack on Putin’s dacha that never happened:
“What causes confusion & discomfort? You rush to condemn something that didn’t occur… but where’s your outrage over russia bombing our children & killing civilians every day? I hear nothing from India or the Emirates.”
Sharp & on point. #StandWithUkraine #RussiaLies
On this day, Dec 30, 2022, Oleksandr Matsievskyi was executed by russian occupiers.
