"I'm referring to ruthless criticism of all that exists, ruthless both in the sense of not being afraid of the results it arrives at and in the sense of being just as little afraid of conflict with the powers that be."

-As a pharmaceutical manufacturer highly dependent on single markets—on China for its raw materials, and on the US for finished products—India needs to find ways of strengthening domestic manufacturing in key sectors as well as diversifying both export and import markets.-
-..a synthesis of official data suggested that from 2019–20 to 2023–24, bulk-drug and intermediate imports rose from about INR24,172 crore to INR37,722 crore, while imports from China increased from INR16,443 crore to over INR27,000 crore, pushing China’s value share above 70%-
The ultimate takeaway is that digital inclusion and bridging digital divides is as much about social structures as about affordable data and hardware. That is where #KeralaLeads
#KeralaLeads India by miles in closing the #DigitalDivide
I analysed national sample survey data from 2025 to measure digital access across major states — and #Kerala operates on a different plane.
Here’s what the data reveals when we zoom in on the most excluded group. 👇📊
Note:
Kerala recognised Internet as a right in 2019, well before the COVID19 pandemic
The #LDF manifesto from 2021 that brought it back to power promised internet access to all.
#KFON is Kerala's Fiber Optic Network that is being built out to ensure last mile connectivity
The Conference is held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. @pinarayivijayan inaugurated the conference and in his message recounted the historical feats achieved by Kerala in uplifting of the rural population through decentralization and public action.

Sandipan Baksi (@SandipanBaksi), Director at the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS), Sethu CA (@all_awry), Senior Research Assistant at FAS, and Deepak Johnson (@deepakmercy), our long-standing Research collaborator recently published an article titled "Green Revolution in India: Making Sense of the Qualitative and Quantitative Aspects of Change" in the Economic and Political Weekly (@epw_in).
This paper discusses the critical role of the Green Revolution in increasing crop yields and ensuring food security in India despite criticisms on political, economic, and ecological fronts. The paper also engages with recent “revisionist histories” that downplay the qualitative shifts and dismiss the quantitative achievements of the Green Revolution.
An analysis of agricultural data from 1950–51 to 2021–22 highlights the transformative changes in agricultural production during this period.

In this article written by @deepakmercy , @SandipanBaksi and I, we discuss the green revolution in India, based on data on 70 years of agricultural production, yield, area, and foodgrain availability. We argue that while the green revolution had limitations, a lot was achieved.
We are very happy to announce the publication of our (@SandipanBaksi, @all_awry, and I) article in @epw_in: "Green Revolution in India: Making Sense of the Qualitative and Quantitative Aspects of Change." The link to the article: https://t.co/Ng7vZMmtKU

Back with another set of #R scripts. This time it is for the much debated Consumption and Expenditure Survey by the #NSSO.
The scripts extract unit level data of #HECS22, and do a basic estimation check to match with the figures from the official report.

Wrote a paper with @abhinav_surya24 and @ruthuca4 on current #poverty levels in #India.
In it we find that #HCES data has 26 percent under the Rangarajan poverty line - much higher than the figures around ten percent reported in the media earlier.

By GDP or national income, India is ranked fifth globally. In terms of the absolute number of people in poverty, India ranks first in the world. A shameful record. "

"Altogether, there are 361 million persons that cannot even afford the minimum expenditure norm set by the Rangarajan-led Expert Group. India has more poor people than the entire population of the United States of America.
