I thought this project was neat because I worked on a paper last semester that explored why women don't get into comp sci & found that it's primarily because games/toys that get kids into CS aren't marketed towards girls, especially black and latina girls. @umd_dcc#CapstoneFair
He says always saying yes to new projects is the best way to learn, since you get to discover so much about many topics rather than learning to just memorize information about one topic in particular, which is why he condemns colleges! #dcc105
More Disney-I listened to an interview with Imagineer Bob Gurr & he talks about how he'd always say yes when presented with a project, even if he knew nothing about it. He's been a designer, engineer, author, film editor, & now an abstract artist #dcc105 https://t.co/p0cy73i2yg
I auditioned for 8 colleges last fall, & even though I worked to study singing professionally since I was little, I didn't get into ANY voice programs. This failure introduced me to comp sci (which I never realized I would love) & made me work even harder for reauditions! #dcc105
Digital Utopia? Not saying I'm Disney obsessed BUT I was listening to a podcast earlier today about Walt Disney's idea for EPCOT, the "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow," which never ended up being what he wanted it to be #dcc105

The kids learning ABC songs in English reminds me of my favorite Disney World attraction, Carousel of Progress. A line from the scene where the family gets TV: "I predict the day when millions of people will learn Latin and Greek sitting in front of their TV sets." #dcc105
I was thinking about this in the context of today and the Digital Divide, and we have so many learning resources at our fingertips that many others don't have. While we continue progressing at a growing rate, this could create more of a Digital Divide.
In 9th grade the county gave laptops to middle schoolers. High schoolers got laptops the year after. We had trouble adjusting to learning electronically, but by the time I was a senior the freshmen were so used to it they barely remembered classrooms before the laptops #dcc105
My friend had problems with her iPhone and went to the Apple store--they told her that it wasn't an iPhone...Counterfeit factories get their hands on the newest iPhones and figure out how to make them the same way. They've gotten real convincing! #dcc105 https://t.co/RICAHCp9dB
Even if the public knew how our electronics were being made, do you think anything would change in our habits buying electronics? Using electronics? How many people would even think about it besides "oh, that's sad?" #dcc105
In high school I remember learning about ARPANET, the "first internet." It was made during the Cold War as a more reliable way of communication. If one hub or connection was knocked out, the information could still travel through another route.

Sometimes it's fun though to compare the live cast to the cast recordings, especially if the cast is different. You can get a lot from different actors' performances and even the same actors' performances on different nights #dcc105
I talk about my bullet journal a lot, but in some aspects I think it's a better form of documentation than my phone camera. Doodles and color-coding allow me to recall the exact mood of the day or moment that I document, even without pictures. #dcc105
