For 250 years, the American experiment has endured because each generation has embraced the responsibility of preserving and strengthening it. While our politics may change and our debates may evolve, the principles at the heart of our nation remain constant: freedom, representative government, equal opportunity, and the belief that our future is best shaped by the people.

Today is an opportunity to celebrate not only our independence, but also the shared values that bind us together as one nation. May we continue to approach one another with respect, seek common ground where we can, and leave our country stronger for those who come after us.
