On this day in 2025: Sunderland signedf Granit Xhaka from Bayer 04 Leverkusen for a reported fee of £17.3 million.

The Swiss international signed a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light, arriving with a wealth of experience from both the Bundesliga and Premier League, as well as over a decade of international football with Switzerland.

Xhaka would go on to become Sunderland's captain, establishing himself as a key figure both on and off the pitch and playing a pivotal role in the club's leadership group.
