What unpopular anime writing decision will you always defend?

To be clear I don’t just mean an unpopular opinion about an anime you like, or defending an entire show that has a bad reputation. I mean one specific writing decision that a large part of the audience seems to think damaged the story, but you genuinely believe was the right choice.

So it could be a character death, an ending, a romance, a timeskip, a redemption arc, splitting up the main cast or even completely changing the direction of the story. Something where you understand why people hate it, but still think the alternative would have made the anime worse.

What anime made you way more emotional than you expected?

Have you ever started an anime thinking it's probably going to be pretty good, and then somehow you end up getting way too attached to it?

Not necessarily an anime that's famous for being sad. I mean the shows that just caught you off guard.

For me, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was definitely one of those. I started it mostly because the setting and animation looked cool. I wasn't expecting to get that emotionally invested in the characters.

Frieren also surprised me in a different way. I expected a fantasy adventure, but some of the quieter moments and the way it deals with memories, relationships, and losing people hit harder than I expected.

Violet Evergarden is another obvious one. I knew before watching it that it was supposed to be emotional, but actually watching Violet slowly understand people's feelings was a completely different experience.

And then there's A Silent Voice. I expected an emotional movie, but I wasn't prepared for how uncomfortable and personal some of the characters' struggles would feel.

Sometimes it isn't even a tragic scene that gets me. It can be something as simple as a character finally accomplishing something they've been working toward, or a small moment between two characters that suddenly hits harder than the big dramatic scenes.

So I'm curious about everyone else's experience.

What's an anime that unexpectedly hit you emotionally, and what was it about it that got you?

It doesn't have to be the saddest anime you've ever watched. I'm more interested in the ones where you went in thinking "this looks interesting" and came out thinking about it days later.

I'm probably going to steal some answers from this thread for my next watch, so give me your best ones.

Most Hyped Anime but you still hesitate to watch

We get a lot of anime recommendations but we may still choosy and hesitate to watch.

I watched over more than 200s of animes but most of them are isekais. Among them I still not watched yet is The Saga of Tanya the Evil and I don't know why I hesitate to hit the play button whenever I see it in my crunchyroll watchlist.

Is there any animes still in your watching list that keeping it there for month and feels like I definitely watch but not this time.

Do you guys felt the same way about an anime?... If you don't mind could you pls share that one anime that staying in your watching for a long time...

Do you think One Piece will ever get a fight on this level?

I’m not talking about animation. I mean the actual fight itself. A 1v1v1 where everyone uses their abilities to the fullest, with 7 chapters and 27 minutes of straight fighting.

Will we ever move past the usual 1v1 with a couple of Haki clashes? Can we get a fight that doesn’t constantly get interrupted by the B-plot?

I just want one long, well-paced, strategic fight that’s allowed to breathe and keeps getting more interesting instead of constantly cutting away.

I don’t really like tight boxers because I feel restricted and uncomfortable in them. I prefer baggy boxers because they give me more freedom, but the problem is they keep tearing whenever I squat or do certain movements at the gym. What type of boxers would you recommend that are comfortable and give me enough room to move without tearing?
