Uganda is full of brilliant young people. I met many of them when I was studying at Saint Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK).

At SMACK we were taught to be God fearing, to have integrity, to be responsible, to accept diversity, and to have the determination and courage to take on the challenges of life.

But to make it in Uganda today, you need one of three things: the right family, the favor of government officials, or a plane ticket out.

In a New Uganda, my old boys at SMACK will not have to choose between their talent and their integrity. There will be room for both.

I know this and they know it too.
