WHAT WERE THEY WEARING - SURVIVOR STORIES
This is a recreation of clothes that survivors of sexual assault and rape wore during the time of their assault.
These clothes along with the captions to present the rape survivor stories.
Why is this important?
There's a question that arises on what were they wearing? Which leads to victim blaming and shaming.
By showing you the different outfits, ages, and even gender the aim was to demonstrate the pervasiveness of sexual assault and how many survivors are amongst us.
What we wear is not an invitation to violence.
The rapists are the cause of rape.
This exhibition was part of our Femicide and GBV Forum that was held on Saturday 31st August with the support of Ford and Oxfam.
NB: These are real cases that Usikimye has handled. A reminder that our youngest rape victim was 4 days old who died to a 92 year old woman.
