@Fla_Pol@GovRonDeSantis@JesseScheckner I’ve said it often that FL will be sold to the developers plot by plot until not a single tree or blade of grass remains - in 20 years this state will be nothing but an ugly concrete slab.
God forbid the out-of-state real estate jerkoffs don’t make obscene money.
@benjancewicz 2/2) This is an important lesson about the dangers of glorifying new-age tech charlatans. That a lot of modern tech is basically magic to the average Joe means we think innovation is breaking the rules, without considering those ideas on the merits. Most of it is a crock of shit.
@benjancewicz 1/2) "Submersible orthodoxy" - this dude was getting high off his own farts. There wasn't some undersea cabal out to get OceanGate.
The way this dude had such limited talking points ("innovation") makes me think he was way past (unfortunate pun) his intellectual depth.
@kvegasgrl@crizteeneeta@DaikonForTurnip@DrEricDing A gist in 280 chars:
Carbon fiber has some unusual stress/fatigue properties which can make it suboptimal for these types of applications. Titanium, on the other hand, is quite resistant to saltwater corrosion and doesn't suffer from fatigue (if the stress is kept low enough).
@TCapoeti@bluegeorgia@RizwanSaifRandh It's a fair point that maybe not enough noise was made at the time.
I think a big lesson to be learned here is that the new-age cowboy tech CEO is not always to be taken at face value. A lot of the design aspects of Titan seem absolutely farcical and poorly thought-out.
@TCapoeti@bluegeorgia@RizwanSaifRandh Beyond that, composites for DSV hulls are a gamble. The only one I know of was only certified for single use (pressure-related fatigue), and Titan apparently began having fatigue issues as early as 2020.
It's a design that should've never made it off paper in its current form.
@TCapoeti@bluegeorgia@RizwanSaifRandh It's an uncertified, unclassed sub that only began construction in the mid-2010s. Less than 20 dives.
The window is rated to 1/3 of max depth, and models of it were only tested at 3/4 depth. Plenty of people (many DSV exps, as well as an employee) sounded the alarm on this one.
Musk turned one of the biggest sites on the internet into a crater within a month.
I never want to hear anyone call him other than a dipshit ever again.

It can’t be properly stated just how bright this thing was - I regret not having a set of 58 mm ND filters and a proper intervalometer/bulb timer for my T7. Alas, the wishlist for #Artemis II begins.
@JoJoFromJerz Unsolicited foul language is one of the bedrock principles of this app (and they know it). Seems like they’re just trying to cover their ass on claims they don’t do enough extreme content policing by using basic content filters - they can say “we’re trying” without having to.
BREAKING: Trump took nuclear weapons documents to Mar-a-Lago.
This was not a drill. He did not take a few innocent items for memorabilia. He took the Crown Jewels of classified government documents to his home in Florida.
@aspiring_jason1 @SenMarkKelly As far as I can make of it, yes. Having been there, it’s an incredibly beautiful area, and I’d imagine that’s a lot of everyone’s concern. There are also some watershed/groundwater concerns in that entire Colorado River region which I’d have to read more about.
Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues—attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans.
@Robot__Roberto@RonFilipkowski It sits in a separate category because legal weed states are simply coexisting under a de facto permissive federal policy, whereas Arizona in this case could be seen as actively interfering with federal enforcement. At least, that’s my understanding.
@Robot__Roberto@RonFilipkowski Armchair legal take, but the federal govt tends not to enforce the prohibition in legalized states. There is also Rohrabacher–Farr which (partially) codifies this. In short terms, it’s allowed because the feds don’t care enough. On the other hand, GC would be actively enforced.
@WordCatcher@MyFactsopinion1@DJDport619@GavinNewsom These sorts of divestments can take some time, because it requires all the state's holdings be gone through with a fine-toothed comb, sometimes 2-3 layers deep.
Hope this was helpful as an illustration.
@WordCatcher@MyFactsopinion1@DJDport619@GavinNewsom I don't know any specifics, but it could be a lot of the investment vehicles CalPERS and the state uses are indirectly containing Russian sources.
Example: You buy ETF shares made by a US firm (Blackrock, Vanguard, etc.). That ETF may contain Russian nat'l gas in its holdings.
